Well my first time in the US was in the last month. At 2 seven elevens and a hersches store i was asked for help with the assumption that I work there. I guess most Indian immigrants work in blue collar so it made sense ππ
I was literally mistaken for an employee at Michaelβs once when I was like 13 by some random lady lol. I was wearing a black shirt with my townβs name printed on it, sweatshorts and crocs. It happens all the time whether you look like an employee or not.
When I'm at work with an apron and a name tag on people lack at me then my apron and still ask me Do you work here??? Do you know how frustrating that is??
Look at all the virtue signalers and morally outraged here in the comment section hell-bent on proving how evolved they are. The problem is, you all think she was mistaken for a worker due to her ethnicity when the truth is, that vest made her look like a store employee. You are all simply looking for something to be morally outraged about instead of using what little brains God gave you to think this through for yourselves and see what was really going on.
Iβve been asked if I work somewhere before and legit never been an issue I always go, βomg I donβt work here Iβm just as lost as you girl!β And we have a laugh Iβm mad confused
The daughter licking her self and sitting like a cat is SO my son ππππππππβ€ Iβve been mistaken for an employee so many times . I usually feel proud that I look like someone that can help when someone else is in need β¦ although I do not work at my local price rite Iβve been there a million times and able to help others when needed .. I think that Indian lady that delt some type of way was actually this issue and projecting her attitude onto the women looking for help ..
I get asked questions from customers all the time, I don't work at a store but apparently I have the look of working wherever I go, even when touring manufacturing plants for an industrial engineering program. π
Bro am i crazy but is it only certain kinds of people that will just first assume that someone is just being racist for anything that happens to them? I bet to them it looks like there's a lot of racism everywhere, honestly isn't situations like this like an opportunity for humour or like that something funny or interesting is happening so it makes a boring day feel better?
Also by certain kinds i don't mean certain races, i mean people who assume stuff too fast. The danger with that i feel like is with subtle things there's really no clear way to say it is or isn't racism, but the assumptions can really warp one's world view in actually scary ways, it can even make you feel like your world is shattering if you come to face with the full weight of it ever, and also make one end up with like emotional scars of illusional perceptions that can build up but are now unwilling to let go even if it is directly seen the uncertainty of life.

I had an orange hoodie on and that is Home Depots colors. People asked me questions and I knew the answer. I helped them. Not that hard.
Confusing someone with a red vest as an employee is not surprising. Not at all discriminatory.
I am White and have been asked if I work at the grocery store when I go in wearing carpenter pants and a t shirt
I've been mistaken for an employee before. If the person is polite and I can help I do. Some people are nasty to store workers on purpose.
