Makes 0 sense. Gordon is now offset 10 years in the future. He’s already altered the time line and set a seperate trajectory of time alteration, removing him now would disrupt the time line for the now future. Taking him back advanced his age 10 years more meaning the only way to bring him back would be to go back to the original point of his insertion or the whole “timeline” idea would no longer work. Just saying.
Almost like “The Inner Light” from Star Trek TNG when Picard lives an entire lifetime with a wife, children and grandchildren and a whole new life in the 20 mins when the alien probe connects with him.
I dont understand why they couldn't take his family with them. They've taken other people from other planets and timelines back. What would have been the harm?
They really couldn’t have just let him stay? I love Scott Grimes as Gordon Malloy, but this would’ve been the only time I’d be ok to say goodbye to the character
Was it that hard to simply come up with a cover story that would work just well enough to allow Gordon and his family to go into the future together?
He's a pilot, right? He could've said something akin to "I got hired on as a private pilot for this billionaire who lives in X, so me and my family will be moving to X — I'll try my best to stay in touch."
Or better yet, fake all of their deaths. Nobody would ever question that too much, chalking up their untimely demise to engine failure or malfunctions of another kind.
Captain Mercer can take Gordon's wife and children into the future, just like Captain Kirk took Dr. Gillian Taylor to the future (in "Star Trek IV, The Voyage Home)."
Why is there a need for Greek tragedy in this particular episode?
Unless, of course, there is a relevant contribution made by one of Gordon's offspring which were created in the alternate 2025 timeline.
This was a really tuff call but ultimately Id say Ed and Kelly did the right thing. Messing with time travel is pretty much never worth it unless you're Dr Who, the consequences could've been extremely drastic.
However with that being said Id say its fair to say that Ed and Kelly shouldn't have gone back to tell Gordon that they were going to basically erase him and his family. They should've just did it without warning, either this version of the timeline vanishes from existence instantaneously or it branches off and becomes its own reality. Either way telling him just wasn't necessary and was ultimately kinda cruel.
I don't care what anyone says (but I'd love to have a cool discussion about it) this episode was amazing. It made me feel so many things, such a simple exploration of temporal ethics within a futuristix society, and how careful one must be when messing with powerful cosmic forces that aren't fully understood yet.
The vast majority of comments and fans I talk with tend to hate what happened to Gordon here, but I can never tell if they hate the writing, or if they hate how it made them feel.
While I get the logic of why Ed and the crew did this to Gordon, they were still in the wrong. They had zero proof or actual reasoning to believe that the existence of Gordon's family would drastically change the future in 400 years. They could've taken his family into the future, which definitely had a lesser chance of effecting the timeline, than letting them stay in 2025. Instead, they erased two innocent kids from existence.
No matter how they put it- the crew of The Orville were not the good guys of this episode.
They were cruel and they knew it. They could have simply waited till they could jump back to the time when he was still stuck in the forest and no one would be any the wiser. But no, they had to torment the happily married man by telling him he and his family will be erased form existence, because their characters are miserable pricks, who will never be happy with anyone.
For all the quirks of The Orville, this was one of the best sci-fi episodes about time travel that wasn't clichéd or outlandish. A proper kick in the rocks tear jerker.

If I were Gordon I would've smoked them. Think about it, they were about to kill your family

Such a sad story!

Great storyline.

If he is there with a family then he was meant to be there
Why didn’t they just leave him alone?
I don't remember this episode.
This episode was awful
I wouldn't leave f# that
Well, Yesterday's Enterprise proved that multiple timelines do continue to survive.
That's how Tasha survived and had a daughter.

I really wanted a follow up episode to this one, where we get a time displaced Gordon who's out for revenge
They should have left him to live his life.
He should have stayed

Typical American
This episode is where I am glad the series is not coming back.
10 yrs he has a life albeit in a different world, but who cares? He’s happy so why change it all?
I just watched this today. I only watched that episode because of these clips. It was the first time Ive ever watched The Orville. Very star trekish..
Not gonna lie they shouldn’t have messed with that. They should’ve just let him stay at that point…
this Episode deserves to win an award
I hated this episode so much because of what they did to Gordon. Kelly did something worse and got a slap on a wrist
This was devastating, but I also get it. An amazing episode demonstrating grey morality.
"You took too long". That line hit like a ton of bricks.
I think he should go back too his time and take his family with him easy thing too do what the problem 😮😮😮😮😮😮
They coulda shut up and not told this Gordon if they going to go farther to get Gordon in the past
That was a heartbreaking episode..
Do these two remember having first arrived ten years too late and learning about Gordon's family? And they just keep this a secret from him forever?
I demand Justice for Gordon, now. Ed was wrong to do this to him. The union be damned.
