The new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has revealed that a major X-Men character is set to make an appearance. After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) continues to be New York’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, though anonymously this time as everyone was made to forgot his identity.
Though some familiar faces are being brought into the action, including Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), MJ (Zendaya), Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), and Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), there’s some new faces, too.
One is Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, who has long been rumoured to be playing Jean Grey in the upcoming movie. However, while this has yet to be officially confirmed, another X-Men character will be making an appearance in the form of Tramell Tillman’s Bill Metzger.

For those unfamiliar with the comics, Metzger is a staunch anti-Mutant activist, creating a propaganda paper called The Militia Press. While making occasional television appearances and attempting a political career, Metzger is discovered to be part of a programme to create an anti-Mutant weapon.
In the official captions for the trailer, Tramell’s character is listed as Metzger when he is talking about being faced “with a threat we can’t control”, and Parker being the “only one who is immune to it” as he is the only one who can “sense it” coming.
The powerful villain is shown in the trailer, though their face is obscured, so will have to wait and see until the film’s UK release date on 29 July.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Holland’s fourth stand-alone movie as Peter Parker and his seventh appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe overall. However, he’s already thinking of his future after hanging up the suit for good.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Holland pondered the conclusion of his character’s journey and who could possibly take up the mantle next, adding: “For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales, a Spider-Gwen, a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter.

“Whatever that looks like, I don’t know. But if I could do what [Robert Downey Jr] did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset.”
As for what to expect from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel boss Kevin Feige also told Empire Magazine that it would be a return to the classics, saying: “It is the first Spider-Man film that we’ve made that is focused on the classic elements.
“He’s doing the thing of living in a rather sad, small apartment, listening to the police scanner and going out and using his great power responsibly.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will release on 29 July 2026 in the UK and on 31 July 2026 in the US.
