I mean, if that wasn’t your first gut reaction after being shown that script for the first time, you probably need to reflect a little bit.
As someone from Louisiana, I often tell people that the Waterboy is a documentary.
But I’m so glad she took the role. I’ve long said that Kathy Bates is the greatest actress of our time and I can usually convince people with three films.
Fried Green Tomatoes (she’s heartwarming!)
Misery (she’s terrifying!)
the Waterboy (she’s fucking hilarious!)

The gorilla gag and the callback of her literally stapling wanted posters of said gorilla to poles is easily the funniest bit in that movie.
The Waterboy is my favorite Adam Sandler movie. I can’t tell you how much that film means to me, and it makes me laugh every time.
As a tournament foosball player, I love that she says foosball so much!
