TRNSMT is underway in Glasgow, with rain (and the football result) doing its best to dampen the spirits of the resilient music fans who have made the journey to Glasgow Green.
Among those who performed on the first day (June 19) was Becky Hill, who received a not-so-warm Glasgow welcome after telling fans that she would be performing new music and to ‘let go’ of her hit tunes. Using the gig to play new music from her upcoming third studio album, Rebecca, which is set to be released in September.
A clip shared online by Clara Martin shows the singer, who rose to fame on The Voice UK, telling the crowd: “I’m going to play you nothing but brand new music. At some point in every artist’s life, we have to let go of the tunes you know me for and introduce you lot to a brand-new era.

At her words, a torrent of booing could be heard among some cheers amid claims many fans left her set at the news. Online users were split over the performance, with one writing: “Worst idea ever at a festival.”
A second said: “Sorry but a festival slot is not the time to do a set full of new songs only.”
A third wrote: “She’s not a big enough artist not to play the hits, especially at a festival! Save the new stuff for your own tour.”
While a fourth said: “Every time you see James Taylor, he is playing fire and rain. Every time you see Céline Dion, she sings the theme from Titanic. Sometimes you just have to accept that people like this song and it’s what’s going to keep you earning money.”
Some leapt to the artist’s defence, with one user writing: “This is so cruel for her, actually, booing like that’s a person up there putting her heart on the line. At least give it a chance and then leave if u want.”
