A Scottish football fan visiting Boston for the World Cup decided to skip his flight home to stay and watch another match because he loved the city.

    1. I love love love that so many people are coming to America and falling in love. 💚 we are not our politics. I know people are going to come for me and say “yall voted for this” to you, I introduce ✨corruption, gerrymandering, and the electoral college✨

It is a very cool city. I’m a country bumpkin and have been very happy living in the Boston area for near a decade now. Everywhere has its problems but I love it here

    3. Yeah USA has big numbers of tourism for a reason, it’s great in moderation. Just hope you don’t need to visit the doctor.

I think this is a really important moment in world history. This World Cup will go down in history, for both good and bad things, but I think geopolitically this is really big.

We know deep down that people aren’t a monolith and I’m really glad to see the reaction of the world towards the American people (this is coming from a Canadian who has her own strong feelings towards the USA as a country). Knowing that a lot of them didn’t vote for this and I think the interactions between people of different countries is really significant at this point in time. I’m having trouble articulating what I’m trying to say but this just feels really good.

Building community and solidarity around the globe is a crucial step towards “harmony” and I for one am glad to see this positivity and togetherness.

Having enough time for vacation to turn around and stay extra days is something most Americans will never have the option to do without losing their job and health insurance.

    6. Live in Boston. The city has been so joyful and fun. The way this world cup has brought communities together is amazing. Not just the Scots but also the Moroccans, Haitians, Brazilians, Norwegians, Iraqis – it’s incredible.

The Scots have been getting all the press, and rightfully so. But I do wonder if non-whites did the same thing they’re doing, whether the reaction would be the same or not. As a brown immigrant, I’ve never felt unsafe in this city. There is diversity and people are welcoming. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be here. But I still can’t help but think how the Internet would react to black/brown people enjoying in the same way.

    7. I loved Boston so much when I visited(maybe not surprising for an Irish person), I’m still thinking about it years later. I’m jealous of all the Scots having the craic out there!

I hate that my immediate first thought was “ah yes, staying longer than originally said in the USA will never end poorly.”

I sincerely wish for all of you US citizens that you will find peace and a better president soon.

This comment thread is weird. People really think the US is an absolute hell hole lol. Boston is a beautiful city to visit. Time to touch grass if you think that the US can’t be enjoyable.

One sect of my family are Scott’s who immigrated to Boston, love this.

    12. For the sake of traffic and the T I’m ready for the World Cup to be over but I’m glad people are having a good time. I’ve only been in Boston a couple of years but I really love it.

I’m not visiting the US for obvious reasons as a gay Canadian but Boston is near the top of my list of places to visit when the time is right! The vibes have been immaculate and I’m glad the city has been so welcoming! Also the Scottish fans are a delight to watch!

    14. Me, a Bostonian who has no interest in the World Cup or Scotland and hasn’t even been in the country for the past week:

    15. If an African or Latin national said this, ICE would have been in the background of the video with handcuffs ready.

      Sweet sentiment though.

    16. I would have to agree. The first time I visited Boston, I fell in deep love and haven’t been the same since! Luckily I at least live in the same country (albeit on the other side in CA).

    17. I fucking love people who love people I’m so thrilled by this. Boston has been an incredible host. I’m sending all you guys love from Brooklyn!

And these folks drank the Sam Adams brewery DRY. Love y’all, Scotland!

    19. I live in Boston and it’s basically been a party every day, it’s super fun. Also while the Scots have been the most visible and in the largest numbers, it’s not just them there’s also been Moroccans, Iraqis, Haitians, etc.

This guy’s going to get detained by ICE for missing their flight home.

You have to declare when you’re leaving when you enter the country. They don’t take lightly to that changing.

I’d love to visit various US states again, but there’s no way I’d cross the US border right now.Â
