His review of her last album was atrocious, needlessly cruel even if he didn’t know the context ( wich i doubt)

Her music’s just not that good…when you create an album and allege direct inspiration from the likes of Björk, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey, The Cranberries etc and then deliever a mix of TSwift and Avril Lavigne people are going to erm not be fans lol

Fantano has a massive ego and sometimes that really does get in the way of his ability to interpret art objectively.

Can Anthony Fabtano pls stand up?

I’d like to know who we’re talking about.

    5. He’s a bit of a dose, didn’t think much of his review of the new Boards of Canada album

    6. Fantani isn’t the authority on taste or good music, and Halsey has been making the same song for the Seaside nightclub Bamboo circa 2011 her whole career. I’m not sure who to root for here.

    7. Daily reminder that all art is subjective. You can love your favorite music, tv show, movie, etc while not giving a fuck someone online or offline thinks.

he very clearly has a distaste for halsey on some personal level that is coming across as grossly misogynistic. his review of her most recent album, the great impersonator, was so oddly scathing and misogynistic that it put me off his content for awhile. other female reviewers have pointed this out when his review of that album was released.

    9. I like some of Halsey’s music, but I don’t think that Fantano said anything crazy about her that warrents this level of animosity

The idea that critics have to be nice if the art they’re critiquing is about something serious or tragic is boring. This whole beef reminds me of booktok drama 😭

This review made me so mad when this album came out. I love multiple songs on the album and for him to act like she’s being dramatic about songs on an album quite literally conceived while she was undergoing chemo is unreal. The album is very honest and vulnerable and not as dramatic as he acts with the context of her literally facing her mortality. If you haven’t listened recommend panic attack, the end and hurt feelings

He’s an asshole but she’s also big into AI now so I do not take her seriously as an artist

I have a halsey tattoo. But her music sucks now. She got me through a period in my life. I will forever be thankful. But she felllll off

    13. I was a die hard Halsey fan during her first two albums and fell away a bit until she released the Great Impersonator. Having had a near death experience due to an autoimmune disease myself, that album resonated with me in a way no other piece of art ever has. I think it’s a blessing not to ‘get’ that album. In defence of the ‘main character’ thing – yep, being that sick does indeed make you very selfish as a necessity for survival! And so what if her art reflected that?

Two things are true; the album was mid and the concept was muddled and his review was poorly researched and unnecessarily cruel. And she can make great music IICHLIWP is a amazing album and visual one as well but she never surpassed those highs. But she’s beautiful, has a successful makeup line and is with Avan Jogia so why bother engaging with this stupid nonsense?

    15. I am not sure who’s side I want to take in this because the both of them give me the ick

i don’t know a single person irl who cares at all about what anthony fantano has to say. about anything

I’m gonna get blasted for this but here goes

I don’t know who Anthony Fantano is and I don’t care to learn. From context clues I assume he’s some sort of reviewer. Why people are still giving any sort of weight or importance to reviews in 2026 is beyond me. Form your own opinions.

I’m a huge Halsey fan. I love her music and think she has one of the coolest voices in pop today. However… everything I’ve heard or seen from her since her latest album has been bookended about her illness. I understand how serious it is, I have very close family members who went through the same. But it can’t be your entire personality, and it also shouldn’t shield you from criticism.

Love her. Feel horrible for what she went through and will continue to go through. But she is so much more than just this.

    18. Fantano can be immensely obnoxious and blunt but people that genuinely think he is misogynistic are just insane. He is immensely more cruel and disrespectful to male artists like Drake, Nav, Machine Gun Kelly. When he doesn’t like an album he’s usually also a dick about it, but not because he hates women. Halsey is a multi-millionaire she doesn’t need babied against some YouTube criticism.

    19. emptyheadeddumbfuck on

Everyone acting as if Fantano hates solely on female artists and is this huge misogynist who lets mediocre men skate by while he tears down women as if he hasn’t torn into Drake, Kanye, Eminem, and mgk way worse than he ever did on Halsey is laughable
