Cocktail 2 wrapped its opening weekend at Rs. 44.50 crore nett at the Indian box office, with Rs. 16.50 crore coming on Day 3 (Sunday). On face value, these are good numbers, but there is said to be a considerable external push, so it’s tough to say what the real picture is. The wait is for the dust to settle, if at all it will.

Backed by Maddock Films, the movie is performing better than the recently released rom-coms, but with external push. The real test will begin when it has a genuine run. Let’s see if it continues on weekdays too. Compared to Shahid Kapoor’s last release, O’ Romeo, the newly released rom-com is collecting well.

The original film, Cocktail, had an opening of Rs. 10.50 crore nett in 2012, which would be much higher if adjusted to inflation. It was a clean hit venture, with its full run ending at Rs. 74.50 crore nett. It will be interesting to see how the sequel performs at the box office and whether it can match the performance of the OG film.
