Lily James (Pam & Tommy) is set to star in Seasons (fka My Wife and I Bought a Ranch), Drew Hancock’s new horror film for Amazon MGM marking his follow-up to New Line’s Companion, Deadline can confirm.

Based on a viral horror short story by Matt & Harrison Query, which first appeared on Reddit and was later adapted into a full-length novel, Seasons follows a husband and wife who buy their dream ranch, only to discover the land is alive with ancient spirits, and survival means submitting to increasingly disturbing rituals with each turn of the season.

Hancock will direct from his own script. 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing alongside Atomic Monster’s Jason Blum and Michael Clear, 12:01 Films’ Scott Glassgold, and Dan Cohen.

The project marks the third collaboration between 21 Laps and Atomic Monster, who are riding high off of A24’s Backrooms, the horror film from 21-year-old Kane Parsons which has broken out to become A24’s highest-grossing release worldwide.

An Emmy, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award nominee, James was recently seen playing Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd in 20th/Hulu’s Swiped. She also stars opposite Riz Ahmed in David Mackenzie’s acclaimed thriller Relay, which released last summer. Upcoming projects include the submarine actioner Subversion from Amazon MGM, Guy Nattiv’s psychological drama Harmonia, Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo for director Takashi Miike and Neon, and the reboot of Cliffhanger, which she also produced.

Jeff Sneider of The InSneider was first to the news of James’ involvement with Seasons.
