Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai met with mixed word-of-mouth among the audience, which is why the movie struggled at the box office. Had the movie gained some positive reception, things would have been slightly better.
However, the genre itself has been suffering in the last couple of years. One of the prime reasons is the erosion of the theatrical base by digital platforms. The current 8-week OTT window is directly undermining the theatrical business, conditioning audiences to simply wait for the streaming release. The makers need time to elongate the window to somewhere around 6 months and make the wait inconvenient for the audience.
