Blue Ivy Carter helped inspire one of Jay-Z’s most recognizable looks. In a new video for Beyoncé’s haircare brand Cécred, the singer revealed that her husband began growing out his locs nearly a decade ago after a conversation with their daughter. According to Beyoncé, Blue was around 5 years old and struggling with confidence about her hair, prompting the rapper to to grow out his own hair to show that they had the same texture. The video also revealed why Jay-Z recently combed out his locs into a large afro, with Beyoncé—who also shares twins Rumi Carter and Sir Carter with the Roc Nation founder— explaining that it was tribute to his late dad Adnis Reeves, who wore the style.
