Ryan Coogler’s X-FILES reboot has officially wrapped filming on its pilot

The anti creativity era strikes again.

Stop ruining our childhood shows with these pathetic cash grabs.

Interesting that the image used continues to be of Mulder and Scully, who are not presently involved. Time to create new marketing art.

I hope it does justice to the series and can create a physical media revival for the original movies and TV series. I am so tired of telling people they have to import the Blu-ray from Germany to almost get it at a reasonable price.

I’m a big X-files fan and this is not something I wanted. That being said I’m also a Ryan Coogler fan since Fruitvale station and he also doesn’t disappoint. I’ll give it a watch.

Every movie is a “cash grab” in a sense. Hollywood is an industry afterall.

But traditionally, the full term is “soulless cash grab”, and described a project where there is no effort being put behind it (i.e. soulless). They just hire whoever they get to write and direct it (whether that person actually has a take on the material or not), cast whoever they get (whether the person is right for the role or not) and just throw it out there, hoping that the title alone will pull an audience via nostalgia/fandom loyalty.

This project does not seem to fit that description, given the talent behind it. Plus, IMO since X-Files at its core is a procedural show, it has so much potential and flexibility to be revived/rebooted/spunoff (Like Law and Order or CSI). It’s not like they’re redoing Mulder and Scully, this is a new story, new characters, just in the same world. It could pretty much go anywhere, while still being X-Files.

At least wait until we’ve seen something, then maybe you can actually make a salient point about *why* you think it’s a “cash grab” and point out the “soullessness” of it, and not just hate it for simply existing.
