Meh, I think his complaint is potentially fair. He isn’t complaining he didn’t earn more relative to you; he is complaining about being paid fairly, considering what the show generated.
Seems normal for most working actors on tv shows? Like unless you’re a star/you can draw an audience. Then you get paid a lot. IIRC the average income for SAG members is $50k (this was 10 years ago though so idk what its like adjusted for inflation/the current landscape of the field)
I’m sorry a child actor who is giving up a chunk of his childhood and is the star of a Nick sitcom shouldn’t be making less than me a year.
I think there shouldn’t be child actors. But if we have to have them they should be paid very very well to offset the fact that we are OK exploiting child labor in this one field.

Nickelodeon is notoriously stingy with the child actors. There are stories like this for most of their big child stars.
I think the main point he’s trying to make is that he, like most child stars, doesn’t get residuals. For a show that was rerun a bunch and wildly popular, people assume these actors can retire off their earnings, but they need to keep working.
“The only reason I say it is because people always assume that it’s so much more and why would you ever have to work again? But of course, if you made the salary of a dentist or something like that, you couldn’t just stop working after four years.”
It’s not “woe, is me.” He’s just clearing up common misconceptions about the majority of actors.

I’m surprised how many people are saying that he shouldn’t be complaining. $125k a year as the title character of a hit tv show. sitcoms are work. it’s reading scripts, memorizing lines, rehearsals, shooting. it’s a long work week.
but more importantly, 125k after taxes, but then also paying manager, agent, etc… his actual take home pay was probably closer to half that number, at most.
and remember, someone *else* is making millions off the show. you guys are really going to come at JOSH for him making too much?…
He’s just not that talented. He was horrible in Red Dawn.

Obviously, I would love to take home 125,000 a year, but that’s not the conversation. I have job security, something that an actor doesn’t really have, but the real issue is that executives are making millions off of his labor.

for people who just like to complain when they see a guy making more money than they do – he also gave up a chunk of his childhood. and as a kid, many child stars dont have control over their finances so they wake up at 18 interested in going to college or starting a new business and their accounts are tapped.
its an insanely exploitive tradeoff to make $125k a year, because half of the money goes to your team, and be put in this position. especially when the show made nick millions.

What’s really funny is that Josh Peck is making far more off social media than he ever made starring in Drake and Josh. I looked it up and he has 16.5 million followers on Instagram, which is a huge number that will generate serious ad revenue.

Close to 230k a year from 2005-2009 wasn’t bad. It was almost 5x the median salary of the day.

How much was he expecting being a young actor on a kids show on a kids network?
People always think actors make more than they do, especially on TV. A lot of actors don’t see nearly as much as the show generates. It all goes to the executive producers and show creators. It’s why the cast of Friends holding out together for $1m per episode for each of them was such a massive deal when it happened, aside from it just being a lot of money.
And now with streaming, those actors on older shows don’t see anything. Jenna Fischer has mentioned this on Office Ladies.
