Integrity. It feels pretty rare these days.

One thing I always like to bring up is how Al started to amend live performances of Albuquerque a few years ago in response to criticisms over a particularly poorly aged lyric. [Here’s footage of him doing it in 2023, I can attest that he did the exact same thing when I saw him perform the song in Boston a year prior to this video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E27DzJxctMs&t=210s)

A lesser artist would either omit the song from rotation entirely (which would be understandable, but a massive shame given it’s a huge fan favorite), or go on some dumbass rant about woke cancel culture going too far or something stupid like that. Only Al could pull off stopping in the middle of a song to apologize and explain how society has shifted since he first wrote the song back in the 90s and have it come across as genuine, sincerely remorseful, and deeply funny all at once.

I read this as him turning down money for an AL commercial because he can’t be the poster boy for AL … like as if there is a club of Als that need better PR
