It was an exciting day for Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh this week as she celebrated a huge milestone for her daughter, Lady Louise, alongside her husband, Prince Edward. The parents were marking a moment that will be relatable for many families – their child’s graduation day. There was also an extra royal connection to the occasion, as Lady Louise was graduating from University of St Andrew’s, where the Prince and Princess of Wales first met and began their love story.
A dedicated post on the Royal Family’s instagram account celebrated the moment, sharing a family photo of Lady Louise in her graduation gown holding a traditional scroll, with her parents either side of her. Lady Louise reportedly used her full name rather than title for the occasion, graduating as Louise Mountbatten-Windsor with a degree in English.
For her daughter’s big day, proud mum Sophie turned to one of the royals’ favourite designers; Gabriela Hearst. She chose a printed, long sleeve maxi dress in ‘electric navy’. The ‘Phelan Dress’ features puff sleeves and a statement pussybow tie around the neckline. Sophie added a navy blazer and wedged espadrilles – a favourite footwear choice of hers – to finish off her look.

Earlier this week, the Princess of Wales also wore a look by Gabriela Hearst, choosing a bold blue suit to attend Wimbledon. The royal sat in the stands with tennis legend Sir Andy Murray, after surprising fans in the queue outside the grounds and even having a go working the ticket stand.

The Princess of Wales also graduated from the University of St Andrews, alongside her husband and Lady Louise’s cousin, Prince William. The couple ended their time at the institution just over two decades earlier, which was the location where they met and began their relationship.

The couple may have met as students more than 20 years ago, but they are now married and recently celebrated their 15 year wedding anniversary. During the course of their marriage they’ve welcomed three children; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
