Ethel Cain calls out TERF movement and transphobia for revolving around physical attractiveness; “how does having broad shoulders, a wide jaw, and a five o’clock shadow somehow equate to being a predatory rapist?”

Absolutely. The best example is Imane Khelif. Like, there are tons of women who look like her and those TERFS act like you are only a woman in their eyes, If you look like Barbie or something like that. Transphobia hurts CIS women too.
They think they are feminist but are ultimately catering to patriarchy’s Idea about what an ideal woman should be like. Small, with a tiny waist, big boobs and the face of a kid, eurocentric features. Physically weak.

How are there already anti-trans downvotes in this thread, it’s only like 45 mins old 😑

I think a lot of people cling to the idea that beautiful people are good and that bad people are in some way visibly “off” or different because the alternative is really scary – That there is no way to tell who a person truly is based on how they look or appear. Because if that is true, everyone could be someone wanting to harm you, and you may not ever know until it’s too late.
Unfortunately, trans women are an easy scapegoat for people weaponising fear and offering “simple” solutions for complicated issues. After all, who is easier to paint as the boogeyman than a group that has been misrepresented and misunderstood, and is so small that most people don’t even know anyone belonging to it? It’s the same playbook used by populists forever and everywhere.
I want to appeal to everyone to stand up for and protect our trans (and in any way visibly gender non-conforming) siblings, particularly our trans sisters, and call out bigots and dangerous rhetoric. Vote, protest, educate (yourself and others) and donate, if you can.

“people just generally seem to equate ugliness with evilness”
This is so true and so sad. My friends and I used to play “would you rather” all the time and one of the most hotly debated questions was “would you rather be incredibly attractive but an idiot, or incredibly ugly but a genius?”. Everyone was giving me grief for picking attractive idiot but *the world is so nice to beautiful idiots* and so mean to ugly people.

She’s spot-on and it’s weird because TERFs like JK Rowling will be like “being a woman isn’t about wearing lipstick” which like duh but then when a woman, trans or cis, isn’t hyperfeminine, she calls them men
And even when they are hyperfeminine she’ll still say they’re men if they’re broad shouldered or muscular and it’s like it’s impossible to win
And like… furthermore associating broad shoulders etc with ugliness and masculinity when none of those traits are ugly just puts women even deeper into a box
It’s weird bc a lot of TERFs are very “if you shave your legs or wear lipstick you’re not a feminist” in the same breath as “that boxer must not be a ‘real woman’ because she’s physically strong and has features I associate with men”
Idk I’m rambling here with some disconnected thoughts but TERFs are truly miserable people
