This is exactly why the whole “he’s just a fan of the game” angle has never sat right with me. Imagine the sitting president quietly offering government lawyers to help FIFA of all people, over a World Cup bid, while pretending it is all just patriotism and vibes.

Are there any Americans here who understand the scale of this scandal and can provide a comparison with major American sports? This will help me bridge the cultural gap when discussing it with Americans who don’t think it’s a big deal.
Maybe something like “The British King intevened at the Super Bowl” …?
What is also suspicious for me that today I checked the betting odds for the game and Belgium winning plays less than USA which if you watch football then sounds unprecedented.
Senegal had 4,15x money to beat Belgium but the USA has 2,60 despite Senegal being the African champion and while we all saw that Belgium underperformed against Iran, Egypt and Senegal, they are still a team with a better squad than the USA.
Are the bookies expecting the game to be rigged like how it was rigged back in 2002 for the host or this is normal?
P.S. – I am not a betting man which is why I was confused but maybe someone who knows more about the odds could clarify what can be the reason for me.

I already wasn’t rooting for the US, but now I definitely hope they lose. This bullshit can’t be rewarded.
American fans on other subs are lashing out at Europeans who are protesting this, saying that we were fine with the same thing being done to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Leaving aside the fact that Portugal’s prime minister did not tweet or intervene about Ronaldo at all, and that Portugal is not hosting the World Cup: No we weren’t, I can assure you we hate that prick just the same and even more. We are not blindly loyal to someone just because they’re from Europe, but that being the assumption is perhaps telling.

The red card was soft and shouldn’t have been awarded, and it should have been overturned on appeal IF they had a system set up for that. However, they don’t. So it shouldn’t have been. But also Ronaldo shouldn’t be in the WC due to his suspension.
But, FIFA is corrupt and so is Trump so why is ANYONE surprised.
And now England’s FA are calling for a suspension on Quansah’s card. I assume their logic is “if they can do it why can’t we?”
All that good press and good will that was being extended to Americans at the start of the World Cup just went down the drain.
I wonder if the player is ok with this or is just stuck in the middle of the drama.
FIFA its self is clearly corrupt, Infantino, is just a continuation of the corruption exposed in the 2010’s.

It really sucks because I was so proud of this team and it reminded me of the good parts of this country. I felt like this World Cup was bringing people together and drowning out the horrific headlines we always wake up to every day under Trump. Now I feel like it’s been tainted and I can’t be happy and support my country’s team or I’ll be bashed on the internet by the rest of the world. Like now if the US win today it’s just totally overshadowed by this and everyone will call us cheaters. Everything Trump touches turns into absolute shit.
