On the other side of the aisle, look at the movie Alexander, with its heavy handed, melodramatic almost Shakespearean dialogue which people panned.

Damn that movie could have been good. Still has the best melee battle scenes I’ve seen

Haven’t seen a Nolan movie since Dark Knight Rises, but I’m definitely interested in a big budget adaptation of The Odyssey made by a capable filmmaker.

“Bro, this nymph is acting so nonchalant. The brain rot, bro”

I’m in my 30s if you can’t tell

I’d rather understand what everyone’s saying rather than hear some weird language for historical accuracy.

    7. Sure, avoid modern slang that still feels new. It might feel jarring to hear them using Gen Z slang. But if the characters didn’t sound outdated to themselves, they shouldn’t sound outdated to us.

This movie will either be a record shattering success or a gigantic flop, I really can’t see anything in between.

I don’t give a fuck about the casting or the drama some people want to create but somehow I just don’t care for the movie.

Curious to see what will happen.

The Emily Wilson translation is really excellent and once you get into the rhythm makes the entire reading experience far more engaging.

Using old English isn’t a flex – the only flex would be using Ancient Greek with subtitles.

    10. These Ancient Greeks should have British accents just like the Hollywood execs intended!!!

Kinda seems like he’s saying he wanted to dumb it down for certain people. I think there is a balance that could have been struck between ancient unused words and Tom holland saying “my dad’s coming back!!” Like you change that to something like “my father will return” and the dummies will still get it and the pretentious people won’t be quite so annoying

Think of it as having a universal translator and that’s why is sounds like modern English

    13. lol if you have to come out BEFORE THE MOVIE EVEN RELEASES to say all this shit. that’s not a good sign.

I think as long as they don’t say anything modern like aura-farming or no cap, it should be fine.

I think as long as theres no scene where ludacris is throwing props, theyre good

Seems the Alt-Right Globalist Billionaires have given the command to hate on this film. Not sure what Nolan can do to combat that.

Oh, I mean, all the criticism is just legitimate ‘concerns’.

    17. What else would he have done? Shakespearean English? Almost any choice is as anachronistic as the next, might as well keep it accessible and understandable for the time it was released.
