I used to think my parents were overreacting when I was 15 & they didn’t let me leave for a village club weekend trip. Because neither of them could come with to watch me.
Turns out, there was an actual pedophile in that club, and my parents were right in not letting me leave.

This and the Tamla Horsford story are devastating, terrifying, and so upsetting.
If your black friends are really your friends, you should be protective of them.

“[The friends] left [Horn Island] and went back without Nolan,” Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter said. “From what we understand, he chose to stay there.”
In what world would a teen choose to stay on a deserted island with no way home

First time I hear of this. SCARY. I sense something sinister. Feel so bad for his family.

My heart is broken. Knew this would be the outcome the second I saw that picture of him with his “friends”.

I really really don’t like people commenting on the choices of the kid or his parents at the moment.

Guys I am European so maybe I’m waaay off, but isn’t it strange that NONE of your big news platforms like CNN, Washington Post, NYTimes etc. have covered this? Is this common??

This reminds me of the case of [Alonzo Brooks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Alonzo_Brooks). His friends (all White) left him behind at a party because they all assumed he got a ride with one of the other friends. Yeah, alcohol and a crowd can throw you off but not one of them actually confirmed with Alonzo who he was planning to ride home with.
I cannot stress enough: never assume a friend is “good” and just leave. Lay eyes on them, speak with them, make sure their phone is charged and “sanity check” the situation. O even just wait for them!
