Jude Law will star in a new movie about a getaway driver, written by Zach Baylin, the co-creator alongside Kate Susman of Netflix miniseries “Black Rabbit,” co-writer of Justin Kurzel’s movie “The Order” and an Oscar nominee with “King Richard.”

The new movie will be produced by Law’s production company Riff Raff Entertainment. Riff Raff developed and produced “Black Rabbit,” which stars Law and Jason Bateman, as well as “The Order,” which starred Law, Nicholas Hoult and Tye Sheridan, and premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2024.

The project was revealed by Riff Raff’s co-founder Ben Jackson and head of film and TV Katie Sinclair at Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Tuesday. They added that Baylin is working on a new TV series with Riff Raff.

Jackson said, “We’ve got a film idea that Jude and I had, which is basically a very simple idea about a getaway driver who wants to get from A to B to C, and there’s a lot of things in his way.”

Sinclair added, “I think it’s really exciting because Jude hasn’t really done action like that before. I think it’s a real example of his range as an actor, but also for us as a company. It moves us into a much bigger scale of project, but it still feels very character driven and anchored, because Zach and Kate, their writing is so driven by character.”

She added that having Law star in it “sets it apart from other movies in the genre, and so we’re always looking for the best in class, most distinctive version of each genre.”

Jackson said, “Yeah, it came out of ‘The Order,’ because we had car chases in that as well, and Jude was having a lot of fun doing that, and then we brainstormed an idea, and Zach has now written a really great script.”

Riff Raff was founded by Law and Jackson in 2017, and received a multi-million dollar funding injection from Calculus Capital in 2022. Since then the company has “gone from strength to strength,” Jackson said. The number of projects has grown from 12 in 2022 to around 50 now, at various stages. The staff is only seven strong, but they are looking to grow.

Law is “across everything,” reading scripts, joining meetings and so on, Jackson said. “He is very, very present.” The company aspires to be talent-led and Law’s relationship with a broad range of acting, writing and directing talent is “really advantageous for us,” Jackson said. “He’s got a very big black book, so he can get on the phone, call other people and it has happened several times already, and that does give you an advantage, no question.” Sinclair added, “Jude has been so additive to what we’re able to do as a company.”

Jackson said that one thing that Law always used to say, “Tell me something I don’t know,” has become the company’s mantra, with the intention to “give you a surprise, we hope.”
