Seeing them side by side just makes it even more ridiculous that they recast Moana for the live action. They look the same age. Iām sure the new Moana is very talented, but Auliāiās voice is (in my opinion) much stronger. They shouldāve let her reprise her role since Dwayne Johnson got to.

Ok I like Catherine’s dress! I think it might’ve looked better/less busy in a solid color as opposed to a print, but the texture and silhouette are both interesting in a good way.
Auli’i looks lovely as always, though the fit of her dress through the torso does not do her justice. Kinda looks smooshed.

So Disney replaced a 25 year old with a 19 year old? Did leonardo dicaprio do the casting?

I cringed so hard seeing the trailer for this movie. Literally what is the point

I think itās really really sweet that Auliāi passed on this role because she wanted another young PI girl to have her shot at the opportunities this kind of role can give. I canāt think of a better example of making sure that you put the ladder down behind yourself on your way up.

The Lagaāaia family is so bloody talented (I saw Catherineās brother Iosefa as Hermes in Hadestown and he was fantastic) and always thrilled to see Australian talent on the world stage but like⦠why was a live action remake of Moana necessary?

I think non-Pacific Islanders need to sit this one out, honestly. It’s a big deal that an actress with visibly Pacific Islander features played Moana. Most successful PI actors have either had their beautiful noses operated on or, due to being mixed, already look more Western. Seeing a visibly Islander woman get this role is exactly what should have happened here, particularly considering we already get a Maui with a pÄlangi nose.

my only complaint is her lack of eyebrows. moana has iconic big bushy brows
