      This man’s work has brought me so much joy, starting with Splash and Joe vs the Volcano, all the way through David S. Pumpkins and the warmth he brought to playing Fred Rogers.

      If you haven’t seen him in Captain Phillips, Road To Perdition, or his directorial debut That Thing You Do! then I highly recommend putting them on your list.

      One time about a decade ago to rival SantaCon in NYC I hosted Tom HanksCom where you had to bar crawl as your favorite Tom Hanks (I was Oscar winner Tom Hanks). Rita responded to me on Twitter back when that was a thing. I hope he knew about it. He got like 40 strangers together, most dressed as Woody or Jimmy Dugan and several astronauts, for a legendary day. At one point a whole bar sang You Got a Friend in Me. One of my fav NYC memories.

      He looks so much like my dad, especially now he’s aged. My dad is going to be 70 in October. I hope they both live to a 100 bc I can’t stand the idea of a world without either of them tbh.
