The Duchess of Sussex, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will join Prince Harry on the last leg of his whirlwind UK visit, marking their first family trip to his birthplace in four years.

Meghan and the children are expected to arrive in Britain “soon”, The Telegraph reported.

The question now turns to whether the family will reunite with King Charles, who has been diagnosed with and treated for cancer in the time since his last encounter with his US-based daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

“My understanding at the moment is that they haven’t quite sorted out a time for Harry to see his father,” royal reporter Chris Ship told Today.

“He’s only here for another couple of days … I think it is very important [they meet]. People would like to see the King reconnect with Harry, to have that kind of relationship he hasn’t been able to have for four years.”

Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter told nine.com.au she would be “very surprised” if, after all their efforts, the Sussexes did not meet the King during the trip.

“[When] you remove all the pomp and ceremony, you remove everything, this is still a father and a son,” she said.

“I think the King is very aware of his own health crisis, and the fact that geography makes it very complicated and it makes it very difficult for him to be able to see his son.”

However, Arbiter still has reservations about the Sussexes’ true motive behind orchestrating this family reunion.

“Perhaps a slightly cynical view, but I wouldn’t be surprised if suddenly Meghan and the children did come in just to draw attention away from this humiliating court defeat.”

On Tuesday, the Duke of Sussex lost his case against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, over alleged unlawful information gathering.

In a strongly worded statement, he and his six fellow claimants labelled the case “shocking” and “a complete and obvious whitewash”, saying they came to court seeking justice and accountability but received neither.

“This judgment represents a complete reversal of the position which previous judges have taken in relation to the hacking claims successfully brought against both News Group Newspapers and Mirror Group Newspapers (who were represented by, at the time, the Judge who made this decision),” he said in a joint statement with Lawrence,” the statement said.

“It is a complete and obvious whitewash, but sadly not altogether unexpected. However, the lengths to which the court has gone to exonerate the Mail is as shocking as it is totally unwarranted.”

Prince Harry’s UK trip will culminate with the traditional “One Year to Go” countdown event for the 2027 Invictus Games, which will take place in Birmingham.

Meghan was previously expected to make public appearances with Harry, but that all changed when the couple’s request for taxpayer-funded security was denied.

Arbiter said the “mixed messaging” about security continues to be confusing.

“Last week it was, ‘We can’t come to the UK because security isn’t tight enough’. And yet Harry’s team then leaks itinerary details and says yes we are going to bring them.

“So which is it? If you are scared for your security, why would you publish your itinerary in advance? Why were the children part of an official visit?

“Harry and Meghan could come on a private jet, fly into Aberdeen, totally under the radar, drive to Balmoral with tinted windows, nobody would be any the wiser.”

It is understood the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children are planning to spend some time with the late Princess Diana’s family in Aberdeen.

Rumours the couple is filming a documentary about Prince Harry and his mother have been swirling, but haven’t been confirmed.
