15 years ago, Abby Wambach scored one of the greatest goals in US soccer history – a 122’ equalizer against Brazil to send the USA to penalties, and ultimately, the 2011 World Cup semifinals

That service by Rapinoe is one of the prettiest kicks I’ve ever seen, to this day. This game made me love soccer.

such a good assist, such a good goal. i’m really hyped for the women’s world cup next year, though i do miss all the greats here that have since retired.

    3. This is why you don’t attack without thought up a goal in the 120th minute lol

Absolute disaster class from the Brazilian goalie. What it the world is she doing??

That ball by Rapione is absolutely amazing. Great finish also… The delivery though is crazy.

    6. True story, I cut my hair off because of Abby Wambach and how cool she looked.

    7. I remember watching this and the room going crazy. Jumping around like hope solo in the clip. So unbelievably amazing

I watched this game with my mom when I was 11 years old. A lovely memory I will cherish forever bc we both lost our shit when that header went in😂

    9. This meant soooo much to my 12 year old lil self <3 I got to meet the USWNT at the Orlando field a year later and it was one of the best moments of my childhood

    10. US and Canada’s women team put their men team to shame 😂 Incredible skills.

I remember the Brazilian players being such shits that the crowd was cheering for the United States. You know you have to be unsportsmanlike to a legendary degree to get the largely European crowd to root for a team that they were very tired of winning.

I remember watching these games as a teen never having cared much for soccer but this USA women’s team got me so hyped! They were incredible to watch and made me realize how exciting soccer can be

    13. As a Brazilian this makes me sad. That was one of four knockout matches our women’s team lost to the US (including the World Cup and Olympics), all during Marta’s heyday.

This is the most exciting & dramatic moment in US Soccer history. This game was absolutely epic in every way. It’s too bad it was a quarterfinal and not a final match.

    15. The number of posts that I see during this current year’s world cup of people saying “too bad it’s only every 4 years” and I respond with “there’s literally a world cup next year” … and sometimes get down voted or it gets restated about “only every 4 year.”

It’s as if some people don’t care about women’s sports (until they can pit trans women against cis women, of course, and then they’re all experts overnight).

Abby Wambach talks about this moment in a NPR’s Ted radio hour episode and it is EPIC

    17. My wife is English and she cannot understand that in England, football is the men’s sport and young girls don’t play it. But in America, soccer is the women’s sport and young boys don’t play it. Boys get tracked into football, basketball, or baseball. Soccer is for the girls, gays, and theys.
