“For years, companies have built their business model around making it harder for working people to hold onto their money,” said Mayor Mamdani. “Whether it’s hidden fees that suddenly appear at checkout or subscriptions that take one click to sign up for and a dozen steps to cancel, the result is the same: working people pay more while corporations profit. That ends now. If you can sign up with one click, you can cancel with one click.”

Good for him. They made it impossible to cancel my workout class membership during Covid when they weren’t even open and I ended up having to get a new credit card number. It’s insane that they can get away with stuff like this
Biden put that in place in 2024 and guess what [happened in 2025](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/click-to-cancel-rule-to-make-canceling-subscriptions-easier-blocked-by-court)?
WHY NOT ME

My mayor (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)’s administration set off fireworks last night just before 11pm that were supposed to be used on Canada Day but weren’t because of the massive amounts of rain without warning anyone because they didn’t want to deal with more crowd control and policing on top of what was already in place for the first night of our big summer music festival. What Mamdani did here is actually useful lol
Pretty sure California has this? No?
