Sacha Baron Cohen returned to the film industry earlier this year after a six-year hiatus from live-action projects, with the British comedian having roles in both Balls Up and Ladies First.

The future could be even brighter, with The InSneider reporting that the actor is set to return to one of his most iconic roles. The outlet has stated that he will reprise his role as Ali G, with production on a new film already being completed.

A release date is yet to be confirmed for the film, and we don’t have a title either as it is yet to be officially confirmed by Cohen. The news has been reported by other publications, so it’s safe to assume that we’re getting some more Ali G on the way.

The iconic character, a poseur hailing from Staines-upon-Thames, was brought to life in The 11 O’Clock Show, where was billed as the “voice of da yoof”. He often interviewed unsuspecting subjects, who were unaware that they were being duped.

He was then the centre of the sketch show Da Ali G Show, which also featured some of Cohen’s other creations such as Borat Sagdiyev and Brüno Gehard. The character got his own feature film, Ali G Indahouse, in 2002.

The figure was subsequently retired by Cohen, though he made a comeback in 2012 at the British Comedy Awards. He also reprised the role for Ali G: Rezurection, which featured new introductions to old skits.

Ali G Indahouse, which also starred Martin Freeman and Kellie Bright, had a traditional narrative as opposed to Borat, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and Brüno, but it remains to be seen if the sequel would follow suit.

Cohen, who garnered an Academy Award nomination for his performance in The Trial of the Chicago 7, had previously expressed an interest in bringing Ali G back to the screen after donning the baggy trousers in secret comedy sets.

“I just wanted to get on stage and muck around and see what Ali G would be like with a crowd. It was really good fun,” he said in September 2021. “The reason I became a comedian was that I loved people laughing at my jokes.”

“To actually hear laughter is a rare thing for me. When I do the movies, I think it is funny, but I have to wait three months to hear an audience laugh,” he continued, before adding that he would consider reprising his role on the big screen.
