Nikki-Amuka Bird, John Simm, Daniel Rigby, Ruby Ashbourne-Serkis, and Zoë Tapper are among the cast starring in BBC’s newest drama, I, Jack Wright.
The twisty whodunit is a six-part series written by Chris Lang, known for Unforgotten, Innocent, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, that first debuted in April 2025 on U&Alibi.
However, the murder mystery has now been acquired by the BBC. Which means that not only will season one be re-broadcast by the channel, but they’ve also acquired series two, which is currently in production.
I, Jack Wright has been described as a “propulsive whodunnit” with family secrets at its core.

A synopsis reads: “The apparent death by suicide of high-powered businessman Jack Wright sends shockwaves through his family, leaving a mystery that pits greed, loyalty and suspicion against one another.
“As his many wives and children fight over the remains of his estate, a dogged police detective investigates – and uncovers the shocking truth about this well-heeled clan.”
The drama was predominately filmed in and around Greater London. The main family home of Marston House was filmed at the Mansion House in North Mymms Park.
Other locations in Hertfordshire include Bovingdon Airfield and Gadebridge Park in Hemel Hempstead.

Production also shot scenes in Hackney and Russell Square, while Aylesbury Crown Court and Old Deer Park in Richmond also featured.
Lots of strong scenes, however, were shot at the studio, including the reading of Jack’s Will at the end of episode one, which sets the series in motion.
Writer Chris Lang shared: “I always knew it had to come at the end of episode one because it brings all the key characters together and marks the point where the main story begins. In that scene, our key characters are sitting around a table, waiting to be told their fate.”
He added: “It’s a highly stylised scene that uses a range of visual devices, including freeze frames, voiceovers and flash-forwards.

“The sequence is complex because it reveals the characters’ psychology from multiple perspectives, showing how they feel in the moment and how those feelings evolve two years later. It allows the audience to examine the impact of the revelation in a forensic way.
“Ultimately, that’s what the series is about: understanding the psychology of people raised within a family led by a deeply toxic man.”
I, Jack Wright, starts on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday, July 12 at 9:15pm.
