Teen Wolf star Dylan Sprayberry has officially come out as a Scientologist.
In a six minute video shared to Instagram, the 28-year-old revealed that he joined the controversial religion after getting sober.
'I am a Scientologist. I've been a Scientologist for three years now. It's been an epic experience for me. It's been so fantastic,' he declared.
The actor, who has been sober for approximately five years, said that he turned to Scientology in a bid to cure his anxiety and depression, which he believes is what led him to 'self-medicate' with drugs and alcohol.
Sprayberry then opened up about the 'purification' process he went through after joining the Church of Scientology.
'I was lucky enough to meet some amazing Scientologists and the first thing that you do as a Scientologist — when you start doing your services — is something called the purification rundown,' he shared.
'The purification rundown is what it sounds like. It's basically a detox program that gets drugs and toxins out of your body for good. I did that and it was awesome. It was so much fun, because I'm a very active person, so doing the detox program with the running and the sauna sweat felt so good.'
He then touted science-fiction author and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard's book The Way to Happiness as a key component in his spiritual journey.
'The whole reason I was depressed and anxious and all that stuff was because I was not being that person who creates happiness for myself,' he said.
'I was creating depression and anxiety by my behavior, my actions, my point of view on the world. So when I read that book, it really helped open my eyes to the power of that.
'It's not only something that you do in your mind, but it's something that I do with my actions in telling the truth, taking care of your body and not doing drugs and helping your parents and not judging other people's religions.'

This is genuinely quite sad to me. I don’t know who this actor is, so I don’t have any personal bias, but hearing that he turned to Scientology to cure his anxiety and depression.. God knows what they said to him. That’s where cults thrive, on the vulnerable, the lonely, they feed and poke at your depression and anxiety. And that’s what his quotes reek of to me — a cult taking advantage of a person. Given that he’s in Hollywood, surely there are plenty of others around him that were talking in his ear about the benefits of Scientology, “oh it’s not what everyone says!” “it helped me!” “i’m a member and i’m fine!” ect ect.

I genuinely didn’t know people were becoming Scientologists still, like I thought it was some sort of self sustaining full family cult. I guess this fits the MO being that they target vulnerable people to join (eg the literal slave labour forces) but I just cannot fathom being indoctrinated in adulthood by such an openly criticised religion, there is no way you’d go into this blind to the things people say about Scientology? Does he just have no critical thinking skills? Like sorry, I do try and be considerate to not yuck anybodies yum when it comes to their religious choices, but when it comes to an organisation that defends rapists like Danny Masterton, kill dogs, threaten victims, and perform human trafficking… I’m willing to call a spade a spade. Scientology is a cult.

As someone who was a big Teen Wolf fan (okay you can judge me), this makes me sad. And if I am angry it is at the Scientologists taking advantage of someone with addiction and wanting to become clean.
But now I understand the wife and the pregnancy stuff. He became a Scientologist.
Most unexpected video to ever pop up on my instagram honestly plus the fact a lot of comments i saw at the time were supportive was crazy. Especially since The last thing i saw about him was that he was going to be a dad. Sad though because honestly i really enjoy rewatching those later seasons of teen wolf i thought liam and his younger friends (including bear from obsession) were fun and fresh and i remember being a thiam shipper lmao

Man, a good therapist would have made him come to the realisation of all of this and without the blackmail of Scientology

Oh fuck no. Never seen Teen Wolf so no clue who this is, but anyone becoming a Scientologist (or another cult member) is so sad to me. In this case they clearly preyed on his vulnerabilities, a classic cult tactic
