      these make sense except the pole vault ones. you kinda have to look at the athletes whole body as it passes over the bar. that’s like… what the sport is.

      I think it’s a great change and well needed. But, I also feel like some sports are going to be a nightmare to handle.

      I can’t imagine the stress a cameraman is going to feel trying not to get ass shots at a womens volleyball match. Challenge level 100

      I’m a swim parent and 1 big thing is No Phones/Cameras Behind the Blocks. Gawd, do parents whine that they can’t get an ass shot of their kid jumping off the blocks…why do you need that. Go to the other side and do an actual front view of your kid jumping.

      Anyways, you’ll never guess why U.S.A. Swim had to implement that rule at all levels.

      I still remember back in the day when practically the whole internet lost their minds over a teenage pole vaulter. 🤢

      I also think they would go a long way by changing the uniforms. The men’s uniforms make it pretty clear that no, you don’t need to wear a tiny two piece uniform that rides up your ass cheeks.

      Some of these shots, like them going over the poles (sorry, I don’t know the technical term) seem relevant to the sport. Those particular shots could be helped by letting the athletes have more freedom in what they are allowed to wear.

      A big part of women’s sports has long involved the sexualization of athletes. Why are revealing uniforms still designed and, in some cases, effectively enforced across so many sports? Even in soccer, where uniforms are relatively modest compared with other sports, women’s kits often feature shorter shorts and tighter-fitting shirts than the men’s versions.

      I played soccer my whole life, and I’d choose looser shirts and shorts every time for comfort and performance. Yet there have been cases where governing bodies resisted athletes who wanted more modest uniforms, whether Muslim athletes seeking greater coverage or players who simply didn’t want to be sexualized. If I remember correctly, the U.S. women’s beach volleyball team also pushed for greater choice in uniform options.

      This new camera rule is a step in the right direction, but it’s nowhere near enough. The broader issue is giving female athletes the same freedom to choose practical, performance-focused uniforms without unnecessary pressure to prioritize appearance.

      I agree with ALL of these changes, but one. The one of the runners legs. Man or woman, I like seeing the sheer power in an Olympians legs as they use them. You see muscles you didn’t know exist. Otherwise, its the Olympics, not Skinamax. Love the updates.

      As a multicam video director, it astounds me the amount of camera ops that don’t understand this OR sadly, intentionally go for shots like this.

      So what happens if a pole jump is showing a slow no replay that needs to be close up for women or men? Are they going to avoid it entirely for women? Are we just going to get that French super dong jumper only?

      Something i wonder is if the mix of sexualization and objectification (the mix of the twoo is what most are refering too when they say “sexualizzed”) this is trying to counter is a result of the camera angles, or how we read the camera angles.

      More specifically, are the camera angles only objectifying because of how our socciety sees peoples bodies (specifically women’s) and because we see anything that’s tangentially related to sexuality as objectifying?

      In reality i suspect it’s really a mix of factors; we read the camera angles a certian way, the camera operators then shoot with that knowlage in mind.

      Women are under no dictate to wear what they wear in track and field. They do it probably for performance reasons, the way swimmers shave their body hair etc. Much ado about nothing.
