      everyone will be shocked to learn the other male leads have girlfriends too. yet, somehow, it’s only the black girlfriend who’s picked apart and harassed to this level

      this is exactly why parts of the fandom celebrated an almost entirely white cast. it was never *just* about “book accuracy”

      this reminds me of when my cousin was one of the stars on an popular tv show and weirdos would make fake accounts pretending to be her and befriend family members on FB, and my dad (her uncle) decided to play along and had a convo with one of them where he was asking what are you planning on bringing to thanksgiving? looking forward to seeing you! and the fake account would be replying back all excitedly about how they’re bringing sweet potato casserole

      So much of the fandom for off campus is actually insane. I’ll add heated rivalry into that too because I see them arguing with eachother all the time on socials.

      I’m a fandom girl and always have been (not for off campus but other shows/books/movies/boy bands etc) and I truly just cannot imagine having any more than a passing interest in the non-famous partners of my celeb crushes. Like when Hudson Williams’ girlfriend was revealed to be a tattoo artist, I was like “wow, she sounds cool and she’s so pretty. Anyway, back to fanfiction!” I don’t understand why anyone would be this interested in her or especially her family. She’s just a regular person!

      There were people who dug up Facebook posts from Connor storrie’s family members that were very obviously maga supporters. Like it was some huge gotcha moment. Like no shit, the man from texas has maga family members? And how do you even find that out in the first place? How do you know his uncle or grandma or whoever it was. The internet stalking has gotten extreme lately.

      omg i used to follow her when i had Twitter for just humor and thirst reasons (not necessarily in that order). i had no idea that she was like A Figure

      I’m still on twitter and anytime I like a show and like or bookmark a few posts about it while it’s airing it’s like clockwork seeing the deranged fans come out of the woodwork. Heated rivalry was fun until like 3 weeks after the last episode aired and off campus seemed to get toxic even faster with fans parasocial shipping and encroaching on the actors’ social lives

      thankfully I still have a tumblr where I can reblog gifsets in peace and see no discourse or just talk about the show in real life but even then stuff like this taints the show
