Pedro Pascal on the Mandalorian and Grogu’s familial relationship

Pedro Pascal reflects on the familial relationship fostered between the Mandalorian and Grogu in the popular “Star Wars” TV series and new movie.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” is ready to tackle your TV screen.

The first theatrical “Star Wars” film in seven years, with 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker” being the most recent, stars Pedro Pascal as the bounty-hunting Mandalorian and his young sidekick Grogu (also affectionately known as Baby Yoda to fans).

After about two months in theaters, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is ready for its digital release starting July 21. Subsequently, it will hit 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc on Aug. 25.

The duo’s previous adventures were chronicled on the smaller screen, across three seasons of “The Mandalorian” on Disney+, which premiered in 2019. Their exploits take place within the “Star Wars” storyline about five years after “Return of the Jedi” and the fall of the Galactic Empire.

A standalone story, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” finds them handling missions for the New Republic, including the rescue of Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White).

When is ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ out on digital?

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” will be available on digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango, on Tuesday, July 21.

The home release of “The Mandalorian and Grogu” (Aug. 25) also includes audio commentary by director Jon Favreau. Additional bonus features include a behind-the-scenes featurette on the making of the film.

When does ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ come to Disney+?

Although not announced, the movie’s arrival on Disney+ is expected a month or so after the Aug. 25 home video arrival.

While “The Mandalorian and Grogu” underperformed at the box office – at least compared to earlier “Star Wars” films – moviegoers enjoyed the experience, if the 87% Popcornmeter rating on the Rotten Tomatoes TV and movie review site is an indicator.

USA TODAY’s movie critic Brian Truitt gave “The Mandalorian and Grogu” ★★★ out of four, calling the film “an enjoyable throwback romp with plenty of action and weird creatures to overcome its weaknesses.”
