The Swedish royal family gathered for a photograph to celebrate Crown Princess Victoria’s birthday

In an era where many sovereigns have instigated a ‘slimmed down’ approach to monarchy, stripping away titles and working royal privileges from their nieces and nephews, the Swedish royal family remains one of the biggest in Europe. It is rare to see King Carl Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia reunite with their children and grandchildren for one big family photo, but Crown Princess Victoria’s 49th birthday celebrations made for the perfect opportunity.
The heir to the throne marked the occasion on the island of Öland, with the party beginning at Solliden Palace, where Victoria was joined by King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle, and Prince Oscar to greet well-wishers gathered outside the palace.

Then, there was a horse-drawn carriage journey to the ruins of Borgholm Castle, where the family attended the ‘Victoria Concert’. The King and Queen and Crown Family were at this point joined by Victoria’s siblings – Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine – and their own families. The group posed for a grand photo en famillie, upon their return, offering royal watchers a chance to catch a glimpse of the Swedish royals in their full glory, sans one or two young princes.
But who is who in the portrait? Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel, are on the far left, with the future queen wearing a floral organza belt dress from byTiMo and Prince Daniel in a light blue blazer. In front of Victoria is her son, Prince Oscar, 10; to the right is her daughter, and future heir, 14-year-old Princess Estelle, who looked chic in a striped dress.
