Finally, a good law! Now if only they can stop them from buying up businesses and ruining them.

Let’s celebrate until tomorrow night when Little Lord Fuckleroy announces that Warnock is an illegitimate senator due to voter fraud.

This is not a great law by any means. This will have no effect on inflation and skyrocketing home prices. Nationally, this affects a small slice of transactions, not the whole housing market. Most researchers agree this affects less than 1% of all housing.
More nothing from this congress.

This is weird. When the housing bill was passed on rnews it was all about how it didn’t do anything and it sucked but here it’s popularÂ

That’s great and all but will do literally nothing to solve the housing crisis. Private equity buying up homes was a fraction of a fraction of the market.

Private equity firms can’t but llcs opened by pe firms can. Just adding a piece of paperwork

It really does nothing to address the problem. All existing purchases are grandfathered in and they can still buy up to 350 houses. They’ll just set up different shell companies to buy more houses and get around the law

And Donald refused to sign it into law because he was upset one of his bills hasn’t passed yet. Fortunately he was convinced to not veto it

How big of an issue was this though? I was reading that it’s actually not a huge trend anyway
I just fear that this is being done for political theater and won’t actually make an impact on the cost of living.

I’m glad this is happening. Everything feels like a scam from education to healthcare to home ownership. American government feels actively hostile toward it’s citizens and I’m tired of it.Â

Nice of them to consider this after everything has already been bought up.

In this headline only culture we are doomed. I love Sen Warnock but the cap is 350 and there’s no provisions about child LLCs to get around the cap. Nothing will change.Â

Did this law actually pass or is it just proposed?

And should have to sell inventory too

Don’t forget, Trump did everything in his power to stop this bill. He just couldn’t.

This is a good start but one of the provisions taken out was that private equity and other groups were required to offload property they already owned within 7 years. This was taken out which is shot to the homes already purchased. Offloading the homes already taken would have been a substantial step to increase the number of homes in the supply side without inherently having to build more houses (of course we need to do both) but doing nothing to solve either is not exactly a huge improvement to the current situation.

Sounds like this stops it going forward, but is there anything that will unravel the damage already done? Should be a way to remove the incentives for them to hold onto the properties they already have. Tax them at a higher rate on those proprties to the point it does not make economic sense to continue owning them.

Crazy that this was ever allowed
