    Trump ends protections for 3 million acres of national monuments for drilling and mining.


    President Donald Trump signed proclamations on Monday reducing the size of two national monuments in Utah by about 90%.

    Grand Staircase-Escalante will shrink from approximately 1.87 million acres to 181,500 acres, while Bears Ears will be reduced from 1.36 million acres to 121,100 acres. The White House said the changes would support "common-sense land use," while critics warned that the move could expose culturally and environmentally significant areas to mining and other developmentiments.

      Disgusting. I was planning to visit Utah this year, the US has beautiful natural parks and landscapes that are irreplaceable and should be protected.

      One would think that Congress would have to pass something to overturn a prior president’s declaration of a national park. No great surprise that Trump is gutting our most beautiful lands for probably personal profit.

      As someone who has seen the environmental effects that large scale industrial operations causes we are doomed if we allow this to continue. Couple this with the massive deregulation efforts this administration is doing we are properly fucked.
