Backrooms has been one of the biggest formats for indie games since its conception
lame af from A24 when the backrooms is literally a result of fan activity
shoutout kane for actively trying to reverse this though
The concept of the backrooms predates the movie by at least a decade, if not longer. This is stupid asf and I hope it legally gets them in hot water.

Make a movie about a long standing subject and you suddenly think you own that subject?
“Liminal spaces” as a concept/aesthetic is going to be a hard thing to enforce as copyrighted material. The labyrinth nightmare world (complete with yellow-forward color scheme) suggested in Backrooms isn’t, even though that was ostensibly community built as well.

First the AI partnership now this? Backrooms is their highest grossing film, mostly because all the creepy pasta and gaming history that made the concept so popular.

That’s trashy of them. The liminal space/Backrooms concept was an important concept in
Twin Peaks.
And there’s a Twilight Zone episode I saw as a kid where this girl who goes under her bed and falls into another dimension. I think it’s “Little Girl Lost.” That’s one of the reasons I am into the current backrooms lore – it still creeps me out.
