For all the hysteria over “woke” casting and ahistorical choices, Christopher Nolan’s epic is on track to make $200 million globally during its opening weekend.

    2. WideConversation1989 on

For all the ‘woke’ talk, I’m glad it’s done well and shut the vocal haters up.

    3. sniksniksnek on

There was no backlash. Only the bleating of the same losers who always do this.

    4. Healthy_Razzmatazz38 on

i like it, i get to block everyone who talks about it and my feeds get better.

    5. schfiftyfiveshades on

whaaaat? the backlash based off the most stupid reasons and championed by one of the biggest douchebags on the planet wasn’t valid?

      Never saw that coming

    6. TouchAltruistic on

“Backlash” is just noise, and is not intended to have an impact on anything but your attention.

    7. Just watch it and it quite good. So tired of all the “woke vs anti woke” bullshit

    8. I think a lot of the backlash leveled at it was racist trash, but I still take critical exception to the weird modern superhero-ish armor. I’m still trying to find a screening in my area that isn’t packed but I’m hoping it’s something I can visually get over as I watch.

    9. Boomboclaaat90210 on

The only backlash was right-wing chuds screeching and crying that everyone on screen wasn’t white or cisgendered

    10. BarbellsandBurritos on

Because it was asking us to pretend that Lupita Nyong’o isn’t worth going to war over.

    11. MAGA cries about literally everything. They’re just a bunch of twats that hate everything.

    12. Doesn’t the backlash always fail? Thought the superbowl halftime show proved that this year?

    13. Independent-Name4478 on

Culture will never be right wing. What kind of movie do they want, white men only, no female characters, they don’t even like attractive white women starring in movies like Supergirl

BUT THE COSTUMES GUYS!!! THE COSTUMES!!!!!

      – Redditors for some reason

Love the line in the article “Despite the best efforts of some of the worst people” This can describe so many things in our world lately.

    16. RECollector0912 on

It’s totally uncalled for. Everyone they were mad about was great in there role. Some roles were small but important. What a shame they cant enjoy an epic, theatre worthy experience, but the messages on humanity and war would probably be lost on them.

    17. AdmiralSaturyn on

The anti-woke crowd have just made themselves an even bigger laughingstock than they already were back when that Barbie movie made a billion bucks.

    18. I heard so much negative shit about this movie, and then I saw that it hadn’t actually been released.

    19. IssueEmbarrassed8103 on

Thousands of bot phones designed to stir anger among America’s young men

    20. givin_u_the_high_hat on

It was pathetic. How many times can a group that gets so much wrong convince themselves they’re right every time.

    21. whatisartreally on

I’m more upset I have legitimate qualms with a myriad of things with the movie (admittedly arbitrary), but criticizing it right now is considered to be a part of the absolute knobs ranting about Elliott Page. Which I hear was a cool part of the movie.

    22. Foreskin_Mafia on

I don’t understand how one can be emotionally invested in a film they had nothing to do with let alone one they haven’t even seen.

    23. PsychologicalPlay464 on

I love movies and just can’t understand getting so wound up by a film. Don’t like it? Don’t see it!

    24. JaracRassen77 on

Honestly, seeing the chuds trying to stir up BS and seeing their campaign utterly fail to stop the movie from this initial success makes me smile. Hopefully the “woke!” anger phase we’ve been in for the last ten years is fading.

    25. DogsRcutiePies on

It’s always the loud vocal minority that gets the attention. I saw the Odyssey at a typically very quiet theater and at 2pm yesterday the IMAX theater had dozens of people

    26. It’s a fictional story. I’ve been looking forward to watching it since I saw the trailer and I’ll be doing so tomorrow! Looks amazing.

    27. FamiliarPotential550 on

I don’t know if it drove viewers (totally possible) but, people need to remember, still a vocal minority.

    28. Christopher Nolan is just such a weird target to tie their anti woke nonsense too. He doesn’t miss, his films are always baseline good, and do well financially. Absolute idiocy across the board

    29. AnavelGato2020 on

Reminds me of the anti woke brigade going after the Barbie and Mario movie. Worked out so well on those films let me tell you. 😆

    30. Main-Procedure-3613 on

I wasn’t going to prioritize seeing it this weekend but when I read some bigot yack and propaganda style insinuation that a 3,000+ year old fiction created as an amazing epic poem by the ANCIENT Greek poet Homer was “wrong” to include people of color I made room in my schedule and just bought riches for tonight. So there were Arab-black African mix crew on the trading ships from North African in all the Mediterranean ports all the time. When people with lots of melanin work all day every day in the sun on the sea their skin gets tanned steadily to extreme darkness. I see evidence for the way this Director opted to cast the film as being highly likely to be accurate with any woven facts of the story. With that being said, again, it’s always been a work of FICTION. (!?!)

    31. Impossible-Flight250 on

They are still trying to tear the movie down. Honestly, if you don’t want to see the movie, just don’t see it. It’s weird going out of your way to deliberately try and destroy it.

    32. It was very funny seeing a bunch of chuds who barely graduated high school pretend like they cared about the “historical accuracy” of ancient Greece.

I love watching these losers embarrass themselves.

    33. catsandnaps1028 on

Some people just love to hate on everything. Entertainment is supposed to be fun! Nolan is giving us an epic story with a stacked cast

    34. Do you guys remember that it was here on Reddit that people wouldn’t STFU crapping on this movie before it was released? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

    35. AsassinProdigyX on

Literally only has like 2 or 3 black people in it and people are losing their minds about it. The fucking racism is literally palpable at this point. Elliot Page did a fantastic job and if they weren’t already known to be Trans, no one would’ve given a shit.

    36. Ok-Turnip-9035 on

Christopher Nolan doesn’t need the critics blessings he does what he wants

And audiences will flock to watch it everytime

Also love that he and his wife mentor in techniques etc

He is a visionary – with how the industry is shaping up I feel very lucky to get to experience so much of his work 🎬🎞️🎥📽️
