Meghan Markle was reportedly unhappy with the “quite stressful” royal controversy surrounding the Sussexes’ UK trip, according to sources.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had planned to visit the UK together last week; however, arrangements were altered due to security issues and following a highly publicized exchange between the Sussex team and the royals regarding their lodging.
Following contradictory statements from both parties, it was first revealed that Meghan would not be accompanying her husband to London, and several days afterward, it was determined that she would not attend any public engagements.
Meghan’s sole confirmed presence in the UK last weekend is believed to have been at a private family gathering with King Charles and Queen Camilla, as well as Prince Harry and Prince Archie with Princess Lilibet at Highgrove House.
Recent reports have now referenced sources who provided additional perspective on how the duchess was responding as the royal controversy developed.
A source familiar with the Sussex couple told People magazine that the upheaval leading up to the UK trip was “especially painful” for Meghan. They noted that she would have felt “humiliated” observing the public exchange unfold, with a “lot of sadness”.
Nevertheless, another source stated that the Duchess is “very supportive” of her husband and “always lets him lead” when it comes to their royal relatives.
The Mirror’s royal editor, Russell Myers, told the outlet: “What was billed as a big homecoming, not only for Harry but potentially for Meghan too, turned into a nightmare. It was further evidence of the fractiousness of Harry’s relationship with the institution.”

Last Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met with His Majesty for an hour-long audience at Highgrove House, the King and Queen’s private residence in Gloucestershire. The visit marked the first occasion in four years that Archie and Lilibet had been reunited with their royal grandfather.
While the specifics of the private meeting remain undisclosed, sources have shed new light on its outcome, revealing that the Sussex couple’s primary concern was maintaining secrecy around the gathering – and they are reportedly pleased with how everything unfolded.
A source told Vanity Fair: “They are keeping the meeting top secret. They haven’t said anything to anyone. The agreement was made before they met the king that nothing would be shared-no photos, no details.”
The source further added: “It was a top-secret arrangement and they pulled it off, and frankly, they are delighted about that.”
