      The irony is that coaches never talk like this about Caitlin Clark who has the most insane temper.

      I think when people say things “in the heat of the moment” they are just speaking what is truly in their hearts. So when she said Angel was from a “protected species” she meant that. She knew exactly what she was implying and she’s now trying to do damage control.

      Any apology that includes “I have affiliation with [marginalized group I’ve said fucked up things about]” is never going to be a good apology.

      Disgusting. If she keeps her job after calling a professional black woman a species – that’s some complexion protection right there

      If she were sincere, she would meet with Angel in person and apologize to her, then she would issue the public statement. She panics, makes excuses, and tries to make herself look as innocent as possible as a performance to everybody else except for Angel. Unfortunately not a surprise to anybody.

      Regardless of what it means in Australia, I think given the league that Sandy works in (with predominantly black women) she should have known better.

      And Angel really doesn’t get a special whistle, so idk what she is talking about. I saw a game this season with Sandy’s team playing Angel’s, and they were hacking Angel under the basket and a lot of it was uncalled, so idk where Angel’s special whistle is?

      Her apology was decent imo, but it’s Angel’s choice if she wants to accept it or not. From Angel’s tweet, there might be more there than we know.

      And of course the Angel haters were being their typical selves after this happened, and tried t**​**o villainize a black woman for being upset she got called a species.​

      Look as a coloured person (first generation immigrant child) residing in Australia I will say protected species is a very often used term in our sports media and talking heads to refer to the treatment stars get by officials. I don’t believe she is racist and think this apology is sincere. You do have to understand cultural differences and she definitely will after this.
