Source : full YT Good Hang with Amy Poehler
Will Ferrell’s wife is Swedish, and he has learned that they are not afraid to tell you exactly how it is. 🇸🇪 From brutally honest weight comments to calling someone ugly, the directness is hilarious! Do you know anyone who is this unintentionally savage?

He's right
This is absolutely not Swedish, but its 100% German. There it's considered polite to say "you look tired today", because it shows you noticed they don't look like normal and something's happened.
The direct approach to telling someone something is that you also respect their time by not talking around it but rather face it head on in a conversation. I think germans and maybe dutch people understand this approach. You respect peoples time by adressing it directly.
This summer was the first time in 10+ years that i wasnt the fittest in the group, and then its only fair that someone in my friend group grabs my belly/sidefat and violently shakes it while asking "what is this, what is this.. Huh?!".
Not nearly as brutal as the Dutch. Could be a regional thing though. In my experience we dont like confrontation or being mean to someone's face and try to couch criticisms in ways that make us seem evasive by germanic standards
Our behaviour is pretty direct and straightforward. We speak clearly and do not rely hints and implied meaning too much.
Our humor is pretty subtle and clever. Often delivered indirectly and wrapped in irony.
It's nice being around honest people who cuts the bullshit.
If a swede tells an American youre fat. Youre fat. You can argue against , but youre just wrong…. wrong.
Nah, we don't call people fat and ugly, other than as a joke. It's waaaay too confrontational. We are aggressively passive aggressive, but we're not outright mean.
Swedish people would not call someone fat or ugly. 😮 I’m Norwegian and I think culturally we are very similar. No way would a Swede say that.
Wow comments are wild. Swedes are direct, exactly as described.
We’re also know for the alps and chocolate, but thats Switzerland. 😂
We might be more direct than some other people, but never rude or that brutal way of being nasty.
I think they confuse Swedes with Germans. Especially German mothers, because this is what my mother would say.
Swedes don’t do that. They take every possible route to shy away from conflict which can be as exhausting to deal with.
We would never say that someone is ugly. Some people can say ”You look tired”, but said to someone outside the family it’s considered rude to say that.
Are you sure your not talking about Germans?
As many people, mostly Americans who moved here, have pointed out, we appreciate our own time so much that we dont want to take up your time with not being direct.
My first thoughts were; direct and brutally honest? Why are they describing the Dutch?
But then again, everything is comparative and on a spectrum. We are Dutch light 😅
I would say it is the other way around. We tend to dance around the question rather than being direct.
Being rude is a big no. At least it used to be.
We are more reserved as people a bit like the japanese. This i do not recognise at all actually. Its not accepted to call people fat or ugly here?😂
He's problably talking about snobs and rich higher class people. No one would be that rude.. we are acctually very friendly and polite. That must have been very few encounters.. or he's talking about other people.
Tell me you've only socialized with media folks, without telling me you only socialize with media folks. 😂 I honestly think they're talking about producers. It's either that or they've only spent time with upper class stockholmian teenagers.
As a Swede attending a school in Las Vegas many years ago I was given the "brutally honest person" title by my classmates 🙂 I did however not insult anyone's looks, I was just honest in other ways
What a brunch of crap, that’s not at all Swedish people !
Sounds like Koreans 😂
As a Swede I don't agree at all. Swedes are the most passive aggressive, afraid of confrontation- people known to mankind. Swedes are only honest if that honesty doesn't result in any type of conlict.
LOL! Swedish are very polite. We don't call people ugly or fat. Tired is just a thing up here when its dark and cold. Its mostly out of compassion and not malice.
They must have Swedes confused with Germans…
We run on sarcasm and coffee 😂
We are more direct than Nordics actually think its just because this is how we are and we dont really recognize it just like the whole chat is mad now because they made a joke telling people are fat. We are upright but nice mostly, laid back but more upright and direct than most nations except germans and Belgians maybe hahaha but we dont recognize it because we are so used to it!
