    For their third date, Meghan and Harry traveled to Botswana. “We camped out with each other under the stars,” Harry reminisced in their joint engagement interview. “We were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to get to know each other.” Talk about a romantic vacation!

    They reportedly stayed at Meno a Kwena, near the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. The Sussexes returned the following year to celebrate Meghan’s birthday in the country.

    Mallorca, Spain

    King Charles and Princess Diana took their sons William and Harry to Mallorca in 1987, where they stayed with the Spanish royal family. Diana loved it so much, she returned the next year.

    The Bahamas

    Montego Bay, Jamaica

    Numerous royals have stayed at the Half Moon resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica, including Prince Harry, King Charles, and Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. “The Royal Villas are quite literally for royals,” Palm Beach Daily noted. Queen Elizabeth stayed “in the six-bedroom Royal Villa, which has a dead-on view of the sea. The villa’s cook was thrilled when the prince asked her to make him Jamaican specialties ackee and saltfish with bananas and steamed callaloo.”

    Klosters, Switzerland

    Charles loves skiing in the Klosters in the Swiss Alps; he even has two chair lifts named after him. (Camila, unlike Diana, doesn’t like to ski.) The Klosters, too, is famously where the world first learned that Prince William was dating Kate Middleton, when the two were photographed skiing together in 2004.

    Though it’s famous for skiing, the Klosters is beautiful in the summertime—with plenty of hiking trails and outdoor activities.

    Costa Rica

    For two years in a row, the Sussexes visited Costa Rica ahead of the Christmas holidays. In 2024, Prince Harry, Meghan, and their two children spent time in Zapotal, Nandayure, and Guanacaste, according to local media. In 2023, they reportedly stayed in Playa Hermosa.

    Melides, Portugal

    The Sussexes also reportedly bring their family to Melides, Portugal, which is known as the “Hamptons of Portugal” and located south of Lisbon.

    People reported in 2024 they had purchased a vacation home in Portugal. Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank own a home in the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club.

    Isles of Scilly

    The Isles of Scilly are an archipelago off the coast of Cornwall where the Cambridges have visited numerous times. There’s some history there: Prince William visited the Isles when he was young, alongside his parents and brother. The Isles are the UK’s only tropical islands, and according to their tourism site, they are “outstandingly beautiful, uncrowded and unspoilt.” Sounds like the perfect vacation spot.

    Ischia, Italy

    Before she became queen, Queen Camilla and her family frequently spent time in Ischia, an island in the Gulf of Naples, Italy. “Every year, we went on holiday to the island of Ischia, just off Naples,” her son, Tom Parker Bowles, revealed. “There were endless lunches of vitello al limone, fried zucchini, lots of fresh fish and pasta. It instilled a lifelong passion for Italian food.”

    The Scottish Highlands, Scotland

    Last but certainly not least: The British royal family’s favorite summer vacation spot is in the Scottish Highlands at Balmoral Castle. Queen Elizabeth spent every August there, with various members of her family coming up to spend part of the month with her. King Charles has followed in his late mother’s tradition.
