US defence secretary Pete Hegseth is now giving evidence at the committee hearing.
Or, at least, he was for a few seconds before being interrupted four times by hecklers.
One could be heard shouting:
"Stop bombing our children in Iran and Palestine – this is illegal."
After the interruptions police removed the protestors from the hearing.
Hegseth began by saying that "a dangerous world that requires bold and swift action".
The US defence department needs "an urgent, necessary injection of resources" to address its immediate needs, he said.
