    1. Meh. Zendaya was a huge Disney star at the time, and it seemed like most Disney stars ended up launching singing careers.

    2. Some of these I knew already….others not so much šŸ˜…

Minnie Driver’s voice is genuinely lovely.Ā  That album came out when we were all into that Starbucks Jazz esthetic and I loved it.Ā Ā

    4. So did Zendaya release Replay, watch it blow up, and just never release an album? Or any music again? Was an album ever completed and just never released?

It’s an age-old strategy: if someone’s a famous actor, it should be easy to sell an album.

This was actually baked into the contracts of several young stars in the 60s – even Hayley Mills had charting hits simply because she was a big child star. Give them a recording contract, make some extra cash.

The best use of this was when David McCallum, riding high on *The Man From UNCLE*, was offered a recording contract – but instead of just singing like everyone else, McCallum, a classically trained oboist, finagled Capitol Records to release an album of his instrumental works. His song ā€œThe Edgeā€ (written with producer David Axelrod) gave Dr. Dre his sample for ā€œThe Next Episodeā€.

    6. I’m sure Kimberly Kardashian brought as much skill and raw talent to her muskc career as she does everything else.

    9. How dare you not mention Paris Hilton’s ā€œstars are blindā€? Honestly such a bop.

Ok I knew about zendaya and Brie Larson but not Scarlett Johansson and RDJ!!!!

    11. Some of these people were Disney kids, they are practically required to have albums at some point

Robert Downey Jr had already been nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe before releasing his album, so I wouldn’t really call it the “first step” for him.

    13. The scarjo album is such an experience , it’s a tom waits cover album and she has a beautiful voice… but his music just dosent work like thatIMO
