He looks 100% into her and she looks like she would rather be anywhere else.

Yes, there’s a power imbalance involved here considering he was a director, and older, but she was also more famous and an adult herself at 22. At 22, I was in university and knew better than to cheat on my partner with a married man. The loser also deserves criticism but he’s a nobody director so people never cared as much about him. Kristen got more attention because of this since she was 1) more famous 2) in a very famous public relationship with a beloved costar at the time. It’s not a conspiracy theory, just 1+1=2.

The victims here are this loser’s wife and Rob. I don’t understand the sympathy rush of excusing cheaters while ignoring the pain they inflicted on others.

Her body language makes it look more like she’s trying to squirm away than engaging. What was the point of this “scandal”?

I know that everyone got REAL MAD at her for this, but the upshot was (a) she went and figured out her sexuality and made some apparently awesome and fancy French Films, getting her on a more elite track than the Snow White popular-leading-lady direction, and (b) NOBODY heard of Rupert Sanders again, and his now-ex wife remarried and seems to be doing just fine.

So in the end, it all seems to have sorted itself out correctly.

If you wanna think about how untouchable White men are:

This dude on his first ever feature film, given a $100mil+ budget, got publicly caught cheating on his wife with his lead actress young enough to be his daughter. The movie itself did slightly better than breaking even and got poor reviews.

Explain to me how despite that he got Ghost in the Shell, another $100mil movie starring what was arguably the biggest actress of that time.

If I didn’t know the context, I’d think they’re from a movie where an older man is entrapping an ingenue, who thinks she’s into it till she actually sleeps with him and realises she isn’t.

    9. Rupert Sanders has done nothing since then but Ghost in the Shell and The Crow remake. Two legitimately awful movies. Terrible person with no talent or pedigree who somehow got 3 big movies and catastrophically botched them all. Hopefully we never have to hear about him again now.

How the hell did they manage that in a mini?? I have one and it’s terrible unless you’re petite

    11. Yep I remember this very well. I was 24 and way too old for Tumblr but twitter was all over this shit.

I remember feeling bad for Robert Pattinson even though I never saw a single film of his. But I dont recall him ever acknowledging it or anything. He made out better than these two ever could imo.

I remember Will Ferrell doing a bit on Conan’s show, calling her a “trampire” 😅

    13. Never forget where you were when this started dropping (me working the floor at Kohl’s the summer after freshman year of college, dashing to the back to check my phone for updates every chance I got)

A good time to remind people that this man met his ex when she was a minor (he was 7 yrs older)and waited until she turned 18 to date her (by her own words in an interview,he was her brother’s friend and was told by her brother that she was “off limits until she was out of school”). The one he cheated on. She was a famous model who worked with the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and left all that to move to America for his career……

**And she played Stewart’s mother in the Snow White movie**

    15. Y’all need to look up trumps tweets about this, he was DEVASTATED and obsessed.

Where was this, what “run down neighborhood” even is there on the West side?

ETA: Oh it was in the Hollywood Hills? Man; they really were trying to get caught, at least they could have gone up Topanga or done the full gay cruising thing and ventured deeper into Griffith, whoof.

I won a limited edition poster of Rupert Sanders’s “Ghost in the Shell” movie (the whitewashed anime adaptation starring ScarJo) from that movie’s Instagram page. I must’ve won through a random number generator bc my entry poked fun at Sanders’s adultery 😬

I think some people aren’t taking into account the intoxicating effect of affairs. People who have affairs have been known to describe it like a drug. Their actions do not make sense. He looks like a creep for sure, but the sneaking around and stealing kisses, and sex in the car etc. These “naughty” things are kind of the fix people in the throes of these engagements aim for. There’s a lack of control, and it is reckless and stupid. But at the moment it’s like snorting a line for them.

Anyway, cheating is awful and not cool. But once it begins it really is similar to the behavior of addicts. There’s nothing rational about it. Kristen I imagine was clearly going through something she was probably tying to mask the feelings of. Probably the suffocating aspects of such a public profile. And this director was likely exploring this vulnerability. It’s gross, but she also must be accountable. And it’s absurdly still a betrayal.
