Trump roasts RFK Jr. in White House Correspondents’ Dinner roadkill joke
At the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Trump roasted Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in a joke about roadkill.
Nicki Minaj became the subject of one of the night’s jokes Friday, July 24, during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C.
President Donald Trump took the podium to roast Hollywood and the media, invoking the rapper while joking about the organization’s April gala, which was cut short after a gunman breached security and opened fire.
“After hearing the gunshots, many people yelled, ‘Get down!’ which caused Nicki Minaj to start twerking,” Trump said. “Can you believe it? She’s the only one that really understood what that meant.”
Minaj has has become one of Trump’s most prominent celebrity supporters during his second term after previously criticizing some of his immigration policies during his first administration.
Earlier this month, she joined Trump at a White House Rose Garden event and later posed with him in the Oval Office. Sharing a photo July 6 on X, she wrote, “Whoa!!!! #WhiteHouseBarbie with her favorite President of all time!!!”
In January, Minaj attended the Trump Accounts Summit, where she described herself as “probably the president’s No. 1 fan.” That same month, she also attended a screening of first lady Melania Trump’s documentary, “Melania,” at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which Trump has reshaped since returning to office.
In an interview with Time published May 13, Minaj said she had supported Trump for years but had been reluctant to speak publicly because of potential backlash within the entertainment industry.
“Many celebrities feel the way I do, but they don’t say it,” she said. “Sometimes, you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact. I think I am the catalyst for that change.”
She added: “Hopefully, when they see me and hear me speak and feel my energy, that will make them say, ‘You know what: Who am I afraid of? What am I afraid of?'”
Minaj was not present at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, which skipped its traditional red carpet and drew fewer celebrities than April’s event.
The event marked Trump’s first appearance at the dinner as president after he boycotted the gathering throughout his first term.
