His movies literally have no comedy in them lol. They all have exactly one tone.

Perhaps he thinks them trivial…
Most of the women in his stories are dead, so yeah this doesn’t surprise me. Although a lot of his male characters have chemistry, so maybe he should just direct a gay romcom.

I keep on reading and hearing how Nolan has this huge range of films but I really don’t see it. All of his movies are historical dramas, action dramas or sci-fi/fantasy dramas. Yes, he has never done a romantic comedy but he also hasn’t done a horror-comedy, a buddy comedy, a musical, a western, a satire, a coming of age dramedy, a sports biopic and so on.
I feel like you know what you are going to get when you see a Nolan film. And if you like that sort of thing with one film, then you are eating pretty well with the rest.
He’s not like Spielberg where you have “Jaws” in one moment then “Hook” the next then “Schindler’s List” the next then “Saving Private Ryan” the next the “The Adventures of Tintin” the next and then, why not, throw in a music with “West Side Story” the next. That’s range.
Rob Reiner arguably had an even bigger range with “This is Spinal Tap,” “The Princess Bride,” “A Few Good Men,” “Misery” and “The Bucketlist.”
I would love to see Nolan do a comedy. Especially a satire. What would that even look like? What makes him laugh?

Of course he could never do a rom com. It’s too foreign to him emotionally.

Makes your appreciate someone like Spielberg who’s directed a good movie in every fucking genre. Not easy.
He wouldn’t know how to tell a happy story. Just not in his skillset. And I day this as a huge admirer of his previous work. I haven’t seen the Odyssey yet. Waiting for it to leave theaters but I have heard it’s as morose and serious as his previous works. Not many directors have that ability to handle multiple genres. Nothing wrong with that
