A well-known floating restaurant on New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee has been destroyed after a major fire ripped through the venue, leaving owners and loyal customers devastated after nearly a decade of memories on the water.

The Dive, a floating bar and restaurant that became a favorite destination for boaters and summer visitors, was engulfed in flames on Saturday after emergency crews were called to the Alton area.

Dramatic footage from the scene showed thick black smoke rising above the lake as firefighters battled the blaze from fire boats. Flames could be seen spreading across the structure as crews worked to contain the fire and prevent further damage.

The fire was eventually extinguished, and officials confirmed that nobody was injured during the incident. However, the restaurant was left severely damaged, with the full extent of the destruction still being assessed.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office confirmed that investigators responded to a boat fire involving a floating restaurant and bar on Lake Winnipesaukee. Authorities have not yet revealed what caused the blaze.

Owners share emotional tribute after The Dive is destroyed

The owners of The Dive shared an emotional statement following the fire, describing the moment they watched their business burn as one of the most painful experiences of their journey.

“Today has been the hardest day in our journey. Watching The Dive burn was absolutely heartbreaking, and we are devastated by this loss,” the owners wrote.

“What matters most, though, is that every single person made it off safely. For that, we are incredibly grateful,” they added.

The owners also praised those who helped during the emergency, including people who rushed to assist from nearby boats.

“To those onboard who fought the fire, and to the many people who swam over with their own fire extinguishers to help save The Dive, you showed incredible courage and selflessness. We will never forget your efforts,” they said.

“The outpouring of love, support, and prayers we’ve already received has meant more to us than words can express.”

Beloved Lake Winnipesaukee destination leaves lasting legacy

The Dive had built a reputation as one of Lake Winnipesaukee’s most unique attractions, offering food, drinks and cocktails to visitors arriving by boat.

The floating restaurant described itself as “the coolest” bar and restaurant on Lake Winni, with owners Jamie and Betsy welcoming guests throughout the summer season.

Lake Winnipesaukee has long been one of New Hampshire’s most popular destinations and has attracted celebrities including Adam Sandler, Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore over the years.

While the investigation into the cause of the fire continues, the owners reflected on the impact the venue had beyond the building itself.

“The Dive may be gone, but the amazing community around it is stronger than ever and the memories and the wonderful people & friends we have met through these 9 years we will always cherish,” they wrote.

The future of The Dive remains uncertain, but the response from the local community has shown how much the floating restaurant meant to those who visited it over the years.
