Nigel Havers, who played Lord Andrew Lindsay in the 1981 film Chariots of Fire and Lewis Archer in Coronation Street between 2009 and 2019, currently lives near Marlborough.
In a recent interview with The Times, the 74-year-old revealed he and his beloved poodle Charley are big fans of the county’s huge range of countryside walks.
Their favourite involves the Kennet and Avon Canal south of Marlborough and a nearby woodland.
Mr Havers said: “We have a dozen great walks. A beautiful one is along a canal where we live in Wiltshire, near Marlborough, where we go into fields and through woods.
“Charley will always pick up a stick towards the end of the walk and bring it home. She’s so efficient at that that I’ve never had to buy any kindling.
“I’m using last year’s sticks still. When she’s carrying a stick you won’t get it off her. But when she gets it home she’s very happy for me to put it on the fire.”

Mr Havers also told The Times that one of his favourite cafes is Tray’s in Hungerford, just a few miles over the Wilshire border.
He added: “We recently had lunch at Tray’s, one of our favourite cafes in Hungerford, and Charley, though not supposed to go near the kitchen area, was as always at the doorway sniffing out any titbits to eat.
“Then she was given what looked like a fillet of beef. She’s a thief. If somebody is playing with a ball in the park she will steal the ball and not give it back.
“Luckily, people always laugh and think it’s quite funny.”
Mr Havers described Charley as “very cool, smart and easy-going” and told The Times she has even been on set with him during filming.
He said: “In my one-man show Charley comes on stage sometimes with my wife. She just trots on.
“Charley did a whole episode of a [Channel 5] show called Posh Hotels with Sally [Lindsay] & Nigel.
“She loved being in front of the camera. She had a beauty treatment, tea with another dog, and behaved brilliantly. She and I were given matching Barbour jackets to wear on set.”
Mr Havers’ UK tour, Nigel Havers Talking B*ll*cks , will begin on October 1 and will visit the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon on October 5.
