Although she hopes to move to New York next year, Bright is close to her family. She refers to her two younger sisters (aged 16 and 13) as her best friends, along with her best friends from school, Malory Towers and Off Campus – there are a lot of best friends in the world of Ella Bright. At home in London, they have two whippets called Winnie and Bea. ‘They’re the skinniest little scared things in the world, but I love them. I really miss them.’ Another thing Bright misses is pub gardens. ‘I’m very jealous that I’m not there for the World Cup.’ As for Bright’s London, it’s not all Spoons: ‘I love going out in Camden. I mean, Blues Kitchen, Jazz Cafe, KOKO,’ she reels off. ‘For my birthday last year, after I came back from Paris, I went to Heaven, and me and my best friends all wore these neon bob wigs. We had the greatest time ever.’ Spoken like a true, Snapchatting Gen Z.
To switch off, Bright will ‘just walk for hours and hours and not think about anything’. Otherwise it’s reality television: Love Island, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Selling the OC, you name it. ‘Honestly, anything,’ she laughs. Musically, she’s a Swiftie through and through. ‘My first ever concert was Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour in Hyde Park.’ She followed that up with two back-to-back nights at the Eras tour in 2024, one night dressed as Poison Ivy (in reference to the lyrics in ‘Don’t Blame Me’), the second night as one of the seagulls from the 1989 album cover. She has also seen SZA live and went to Reading Festival when she was 16. ‘It was four people in a two-man tent. I look at the people who go to Coachella and I’m like, “Oh my gosh, my Reading experience was not that.”’
The future is certainly bright. Having done a run performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe aged 17 (‘we saw 24 plays in three days’), the actress is open to a return to the theatre in the West End or on Broadway. She’d love to do a psychological thriller and is keen to be in a film. But, for now, this Bright Young Thing is on a whistle-stop tour of Paris, then it’s back to Vancouver. The second season of Off Campus calls – and the world frankly can’t get enough.
