A shakeup at Buckingham Palace could be paving the way for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to rejoin the royal fold.
On the Tuesday, July 28 episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, journalist Dan Wootton told the host that Sir Clive Alderton — King Charles’ closest aide for two decades — is stepping down, and he claimed the timing is no coincidence.
“He has quit. He is out. He will be leaving the royal household next year,” Wootton said. “Do you want to know the real reason he’s out? Because he was trying to stop Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from returning to the British royal family. And when the king, who unfortunately, and you know, I have huge sympathy [for] King Charles, he is battling terminal cancer as I have reported. That is a terrible thing.”
“So I understand on a human level, he wants to have a relationship with his youngest son,” he continued. “He wants to have a relationship with his grandchildren, but it’s not about that.”
“This is about protecting the British monarchy from two individuals in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who want to tear it down,” Wootton explained. “And Clive Alderton was doing his damnedest to try and save King Charles from himself, and he is now gone.”
Wootton claimed Alderton could be replaced by a royal aide named Theo Rycroft, who he alleged is behind what he called “Operation Thor,” an effort to soften Harry’s public image.
“It’s been going on for the past year. The British public keep on getting these missives, ‘Oh, Harry’s not really a bad guy. He’s doing this. He didn’t really mean the British royal family was racist. He didn’t really make the late Queen Elizabeth’s last two years on earth while she was battling with terminal cancer an absolute misery,'” he said. “And I’m sickened by it, but it’s happening.”
Wootton said King Charles, 77, has offered Buckingham Palace to Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, “any time they wanted,” with a first visit possibly happening as early as September. “They would be the only members of the royal family at all staying in Buckingham Palace, the symbolic heart of the royal family in the United Kingdom. I’m disgusted by that,” he told Kelly.
Wootton said the king invited the couple to spend time with him this summer at Balmoral, the royal family’s sprawling private estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He argued that Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 44, remain the biggest roadblock to any reconciliation, claiming they refused to meet with Harry and Meghan during the couple’s most recent U.K. visit and were angered by the release of private photos, including images taken at Princess Diana’s grave.
“I think King Charles is making a huge mistake. And this departure of Sir Clive I’ve audited, and I repeat, he’s not a household name, but this is all about the mechanics of finding a way for Prince Harry to return to the royal fold, and he wants it,” Wootton told Kelly. “Harry wants it. The marriage is miserable. He wants to spend as much time away from that woman as humanly possible.”
