Starring in The Odyssey was no easy feat — but luckily for Tom Holland, he had a go-to meal that he relied on every night to help him get through the film’s rigorous filming schedule.
In a delightful cooking featurette for The New York Times, Holland and his co-star Matt Damon whipped up some fresh pizza as they opened up about their time making Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. In the film, Damon plays Odysseus and Holland plays his son, Telemachus.
The entire pizza cooking video is well worth watching for any fan of the two stars, but one of the biggest takeaways was Holland revealing the specific meal that he relied on during filming in Italy. (Spoiler: It’s a dish that many will find extremely relatable.)

Tom Holland ate the same food “every single night” while filming The Odyssey in Favignana, Italy
While making pizza for The New York Times, Holland peeled back the curtain and gave fans of The Odyssey a peek at what he would eat when he wasn’t filming some of the film’s jaw-dropping scenes.
“When we were filming the movie, we shot in this place called Favignana,” Holland explained. “It’s a really gorgeous island just off the coast of Sicily. And there was this great pizzeria there.”
“I ate there every single night that we were in Favignana,” he confessed. “And they made this fiery pepperoni pizza. Fortunately, I was not cutting out gluten while I was making that movie. And I ate it every single night.”
Damon, however, did not partake in the nightly pizza parties as he shared that he cut out gluten from his diet to prepare for the role.

Tom Holland was in awe of Matt Damon’s fight scenes on The Odyssey
Even when he’s not crafting the perfect pizza next to his Odyssey co-star, Holland is still in awe of Damon.
During Holland’s July 13 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he confessed that watching Damon’s fight scenes in The Odyssey was something he will never forget.
“I remember we’re doing this fight scene. We’re in this quarry, and the whole quarry is on fire … and I’ve rehearsed this fight scene for weeks and weeks and weeks, and eventually, I get to see Matt do it,” Holland told Jimmy Fallon. “And I’m like, standing back with a really good friend of mine, the stunt coordinator, and I’m watching Matt do this fight scene, and I just kinda elbowed him and went, ‘Oh my God. That’s Jason Bourne.'”

Holland, of course, was referring to the iconic action-hero character Damon has played across five different movies, beginning with 2002’s The Bourne Identity.
“But it was awesome, and I’ve learned so much from him,” he continued. “And he said the other day … he said that every movie he has made has led to this point, and Chris [Nolan] said the same. So for me, as a young actor, to be on set and to watch these titans do their best work for the biggest movie they’ve ever been a part of was a surreal experience, for sure.”
